Hi all - I am trying to add some nights on to my august vacation. I already have 2 waitlists for a winter vacation so I can't do another waitlist. So how often is can I call to check on availability without being completely annoying or weird? What do you do? thanks for the info! missy

I have been known to call every day. I do not feel bad about it since the way they implemented the 2 waitlist rule is ridiculous.

I look at it this way. The number of calls DVC MS gets will determine their staffing level, which may impact my annual dues.

I say do what you have to do. It's not the members fault that Disney has created rules that causes us to call in.

I check every day on DVCmember.com for an update - easier than calling IMO.

EVERYDAY,EVERYDAY ARE YOU CRAZY.

After I call and finish talking to the CM I hang up and push REDIAL and talk to another CM then PUSH redial and get another CM :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: but I can only keep this up till 5:30 pm:goodvibes

I called daily for rooms I could not WL because of the 2 WL limit. And it paid off as I was able to get one of my alternates after a few weeks.

I know that it is not ideal, but availability does change, and it allowed me to modify my trip they way I needed to.

Excuse my ignorance but when was the two waitlist policy implemented? To answer the OP if you are maxed out on WLs then I say call as often as you need to accomplish your goal. For the price we pay for DVC you are within your rights in my opinion.

As often as you need to. And the limit of the waitlists now means that you may need to call every day - maybe more than once a day.

Don't forget the waitlist limit is per UY. So if you have a fall UY, you can waitlist for the Dec visit and the August visit.

Can someone please explain how this waitlist limit works? Is it per contract? Per owner? Two waitlists concurrently, or two per UY? Thanks! (I'm still trying to decide where to buy and this may affect my decision.)

Two active waitlist requests per Membership per use year. (from Disney Files, page 16, Summer 2009 issue).

Who are you annoying? :goodvibes It's not like you're talking to the same person every day. You can check online, tho, too.

I know it's already been pointed out you can't check online for availability that is not waitlisted, but I also wanted to mention that checking online for a request is not always equivalent to calling, either.

In my opinion and experience (don't flame me), I have on more than one occasion called to check availability and been offered the same exact accommodation and dates that I was waitlisted for.

I am of the firm belief that when more inventory becomes available (through cancellation or now in the case of BLT, as new rooms have been released), that inventory is not routed through the waitlist requests before it appears to CMs who we speak to when we call, who see it as available.

In other words, if my timely phone call had been placed by someone other than me, they could have just as easily snagged the room that I was able to get, whether they were waitlisted for it or not. In fact, when I mentioned to CM that I was already waitlisted for the same room, she was surprised to hear it.

So until I have confidence that my waitlist request is addressed in a proper first-come, first-serve manner, I cannot feel badly about calling all the time. And I usually do feel badly about being the squeaky wheel.

I agree completely that you should call as many times as you need to get the job done. Unfortunately MS has been setup to recieve multiple inquires due to the waitlist rules. I have been known to call multiple times in a day to check on an availablity just because I do not trust the system to be fair and fill waitlist requests before making a room available to other members that actually call in. We do pay a lot for our memberships and we should not have to feel bad for calling MS to arrange travel.:confused3

Call as often as you can.

This morning I called member services a few minutes after 9 to check availability in January. When I got through, I decided to check availability for my short stay in October. I had a waitlist for VWL and BWV for October 1st through the 4th. On a whim I asked if any studios were available and low and behold the Wilderness Lodge was available. I immediately canceled my reservation for Kidani and booked VWL. I then canceled my waitlist for VWL, waitlisted the Beach Club, and asked the CM why the waitlist didn't come through. She told me that there that reservation must have just opened up and didn't go through the system yet.
Lucky, yes. Effective, yes.
There is definitely some flaws in the system. So my advice is to call a few times a week and hope for a little luck.

I have often wondered how the waitlist works. It seems to me that there must be a frequency (for example, daily) at which the reservation system is sort of "swept" for cancellations to match up to the waitlist. You might think that this should be done very frequently, so that waitlists are matched up with cancellations before new callers could get them, but then multiple-day waitlists would be less likely to be filled. (So if it's done hourly, and I am waitlisted for a Monday and a Tuesday, unless both become available in the same hour, they won't come to me, they'll go to other people who waitlisted only one of those days.) Does that seem to be the way it works? If so, the less frequently they do it, the better for multi-day reservations, but also the better for people who call a lot to check.

I was calling everyday to check on my waitlist but decided it was making me crazier. So I stopped and decided to leave it up to fate. Although every so often that little voice in my head says, "Go ahead call you know you want to!":lmao:
