I'm new to Spirit and they have a $50 off coupon that expires today....but Airtran hasn't come out with rates for my flight dates yet as it's still 7 months away. Does anyone know if they come out with those often? Not sure if I should book or play the wait and see game....

My trip is in May. I just heard on ABC World News that gas prices will sky rocket. I may order tickets from Spirit tonight. I usually see a coupon for $35 off; not too often $50 off.

I get e-mail and coupons from spirit at least every week or two, but $50 off is the highest I've seen. With that said, if you are not traveling during peak times, they greatly reduce airfare closer to travel dates (about a month out). So look for travel specials for March in Feb...as an example.

To the previous poster who said to look out for spirit about a month out, have you flown with them before? What was your experience? After hearing all the reviews it makes me nervous. I haven't booked yet and won't be able to for about a month because of finances. That is good news that the airfare might go down even closer to the dates. I thought the $69 rate for my dates was a steal and I was nervous that it might go up the longer I wait to book. So you think it could possibly go down even further? Our dates will be May 30- June 5th (but they are flexible according to airfare rates)...

make sure you look at all the fees associated with baggage (carry on included) because in the end after all the fees for picking seats, carry on and checked bags, you may just spend as much on spirit as a regular fare on another airline.

I was actually going to suggest that. As you stated, they even charge for carryons.

If your carryon fits under the seat, no charge. If it's too large, it needs to go in the overhead bin, and you are charged for a carryon.

at the counter they'll determine whether to charge you or not (at least that's my experience at the Ft. Lauderdale ticket counter). Most of the time if it's one of those rolling carry ons they'll charge you. I've seen smaller duffel bags sneak by but sometimes the flight attendants will catch you at the gate and charge you. Spirit likes to nickel and dime you, be prepared for them to even eye your personal item. I had a medium size shopping bag and they stopped me twice about it before letting me go through.
