Can I just say some of the this answers are making me think "ICCKKKK"!

Like I stated yesterday I shower everyday. I have had major surgery and been on the shower chair & in the shower that night.
Just won't go a day.......

!

:thumbsup2 I agree---going 2 days without a shower - blech...I couldn't do it!!!

Lysol goes all over with me...remotes, phones. door knobs, etc.

Because Heaven-forbid we ever come in contact with a germ, ever.

Of late, researchers have discovered that just as the gut contains good bacteria that help it run more efficiently, so does our skin brim with beneficial germs that we might not want to wash down the drain. “Good bacteria are educating your own skin cells to make your own antibiotics,” said Dr. Richard Gallo, chief of the dermatology division at the University of California, San Diego, and “they produce their own antibiotics that kills off bad bacteria.”

Sounds good to me. :thumbsup2

That being said being that the article is from the UK I'm not impressed.

What do you mean? The research was done in the US.

Professor Norman Pace, and his colleagues at the University of Colorado, tested 45 shower heads from nine cities across the US and found 30 per cent contain high amounts of a pathogen - or organism - that causes the lung infection mycobacterium avium.

Or do you just not like that it was reported in a British newspaper?

KellyWasHere I couldn't agree with you more. When reading all these comment I can't help but wonder - WTH are all these people doing that is making them so "dirty" in the first place? I mean are all of you working in construction or something? The hubs does and he showers daily. But they are under 3 minutes and almost always cold - so he can cool off from being outside most of the day.

Really I don't get it. If you work indoors (except maybe in kitchens), you aren't sweating. I would think the more you shower the more your body would work in overtime to try and replace all the natural oils you strip away. Personally (as in for ME) I find that a waste of time, water, and energy (both physical and environmental). Furthermore no one has ever told me I smell. And believe me I work with some very outspoken people who completely would - and have to others.

But hey - to each his own. Unlike some (on the other side of this debate) I'm not gonna judge you if you WANT (as in not need) to shower as often as you do. Maybe it helps you wake up, or relax, or you work out daily and sweat a ton doing so. Whatever. However basically saying to someone you're a "dirty person" if you don't is not only rude - but crazy.

I shower daily and feel really icky if I don't. I have generally oilly skin even in my late 50's. I also have developed psoriasis over the last 10 years which is basically an over growth of skin cells. So I bet I replace mine pretty easily. ;)

I use so many different creams and ointments after my shower to help keep my psoriasis and sensitive skin at bay it adds a good 15 min. to my routine but I still wouldn't go out of my house without a shower.

I also wash my hair daily. I have a very oily scalp that smells. Really smells and I can detect it when I turn my head by the end of the day. Yeah, even my DH has commented on it. I have used dozens of different shampoos over the years and none make a difference. I have nothing against not bathing daily but please allow me the same courtesy. Yes, I will keep my germ laiden shower head too.

Thank you!!! If people want to shower every hour, I could care less! Go for it! My husband is one of those who claims he can't wake up without a shower in the morning, I have no problem with it.

But DON'T call me dirty because I don't. I am not dirty and I don't smell.

I am really glad this thread was started, because I've now researched more about the problems with daily showers than I ever would've. My goal is to now get my shower water temp down as much as I can. I am still one who likes hot showers.

Everyday. Even if I'm very sick, it makes me feel better. I sympathize with folks with very dry skin. I use one of those body washes, I think it's by Olay, and that helps.

Gross.

I don't care about Vitamin D, other nutrients, dry skin, or ANYTHING ELSE. After ONE day, let alone TWO, I need a shower. I am not walking around filthy and stinky.

I take a multivitamin and lather up with cocoa butter cream after my showers. I have smooth, itch-free skin, and most nights I drain the tank taking HOT showers.

I'd never walk around with old deodorant under my pits and dingy hair, yuck, but to each his own, I guess.

OK, it never occured to me NOT to shower every day and I didn't even know people didn't shower daily.... Sometimes twice. I don't like going to bed with the day's dust, dirt, sweat, dander, dirty air on my body and bringing it to my sheets.

Shower every morning, including washing hair...I get too sweaty after my workout not to!

I take a bath most nights before bed.

So, if you are counting a bath and a shower as essentially the same thing, for me it's twice a day.

When I was working I always showered twice a day - in the morning, washed my hair and blow dryed for work - and again before bed - no way I was taking those subway germs into my bed!

Now that I don't work it's usually once a day, in the early afternoon.

:sad2:

I am at a loss as to why some people feel it's OK to be so rude about this.

Do you not understand when people say they wash up every day they more than likely mean their armpits, bum, and maybe feet? Those are the only parts of the body that smell, I venture to guess that you could go weeks without washing anything else (besides hair) and not smell at all.

The only arguments against not taking a shower everyday is that you smell, which is NOT true if you wash the above mentioned parts every day, and that you are dirty, which, unless you work in a hard labor job is so minimal it wouldn't even matter. Oh, and I guess dingy hair too, but most people in the hair industry recommend you not wash your hair everyday, because, again, you're stripping away essential oils and hurting the health of your hair.

I do NOT care how often people want to shower. I was simply surprised that there were so many people that did it once a day or more. The fact of the matter remains that there are many detrimental side effects to showering everyday, and there are none that I've been able to identify to not showering everyday. And yet the people who do not shower everyday are the ones having pretty horrible, untrue things said about them by some.

Even if I'm right, I do not like to say rude things to people, but saying rude things when you're wrong?? I just don't get it.

:confused3

I don't get why YOU are taking offense to a general statement?

I didn't direct my comments at any one person.

If YOU feel clean cleaning yourself, a grown adult, with a soapy wet cloth, well, good for you. But it is my opinion that "not showering daily" is gross.

Why are you so defensive? If you have nothing to be ashamed of, that is?

Oh, Christina, congrats to YOU as well! *I am due mid-August! * a shower everyday is that you smell, which is NOT true if you wash the above mentioned parts every day, and that you are dirty, which, unless you work in a hard labor job is so minimal it wouldn't even matter. Everyday I shower and wash my hair. And on the days I work out I shower and wash hair 2x a day. I can't imagine not showering at least once a day but then again I am kinda a clean freak

Every morning after I hit the gym. I really wouldn't want to be around me for long periods of time after I work out without a shower.
