How often do you repaint and redo your fingernails?

i also saw you mentioned the sally hansen sale. i have tried every top coat imaginable and think the best is the sally hansen in a red bottle, insta-dri. if i were in the US i would stock up on it :P

I do my toenails once a week in the summer but leave them bare in winter. My fingernails I rarely paint, maybe only on special occasions. I love the way it looks but it just never lasts and seeing a chip in polish just drives me crazy!

I keep my toenails painted Black all year. I touch them up more often in Summer than in winter when I have socks on every day.

But now that I have a plethora of new polishes I may paint my toenails something other than Black.

If your base color is a gel polish you can simply use a regular nail polish remover to take off a non-gel design without removing the cured gel polish base. :)

Yup, plus when you mess up your nail art you don't have to start over from bare nails to fix it. :) SensatioNail Gel Polish at-home kit ... best thing *EVER* :D

Do you paint them and then leave them alone until they start chipping? Or do you redo them on a regular basis? I have recently gotten obsessed with nail polish and so far have bought about 90 different ones. Glitter, matte, metallic, 3d, crackle, magnetic, neon, everything. I have been doing my nails about every 3 days. I have been having fun posting pics of them on Facebook. But I know this is probably not normal. How often do most of you do your nails? And do you do them yourself or do you pay someone to do them for you?

I get a fill and pedi every 3 weeks all year round.,

There are a few ways to do it, but they pretty much all involve 10-15 minutes of pure acetone polish on the nails, and the polish will just scrape off. I take cotton rounds or cotton squares (found in the beauty area) and cut them in quarters, then put acetone on them, place them on my nail and wrap my fingertip in tin foil. After 15 minutes, I take the foil off and use a cuticle remover to get the polish off. Wash hands, apply lotion, wait 24 hours, rinse and repeat. :D

You can also soak your hands in a bowl of acetone, but that means you have to sit still for that long, and I just can't do that.

Just curious; what is a "fill"? Also for Jillybean, how do you remove the gel polish when you want to change colours?

A fill is when you get sculptured nails and every few weeks when they grow out you get the empty area at the top of your nail filled in. They do not have to redo the whole nail just fill in the growth area.

I had a period of about 3 or 4 years probably 20 years ago when I use to get sculps done every few weeks, then I found the stuff to do it myself and saved a ton of money. But you do have to invest in a professional grade grinder to do it properly and that costs around $125. But it saved me $20 every 3 weeks when I started doing it myself. But eventually I got tired of that.

ETA: that gel polish situation seems like way more trouble than it is worth, to me.

Not really. It's not any worse than the sculpted nails with fill ins. The polish on my fingers tends to need to be redone because of outgrowth rather than chipping, and if I do a french manicure style, I don't even have to take it off to "fix" it. I just like to let my nails breathe every 10 days or so. The 30 minutes it takes to remove the polish is made up in the time it takes to put it on (because there's no drying time ... I can do my toes completely, start to finish, in about 15 minutes).

Acrylic over lays here I'm ashamed to say last time it was like 2 months between fillins odd thing I was still getting many compliments on my bright neon orange nails, but my nails was extremely long like 2 inches.

Last time I tried polishing my own nails it looked like a 4 yr old had done them that was just normal polish.

I've gotten into nail polish an polishing nails ever 3 or 4 times a few times in my life no matter what kind of polish remover I've used my nails was ate up in no time splitting an breaking.
