How often do you go to the movies?

We have 4 kids and no regular sitter so we don't go very often. Plus the prices are getting so high for the tix, drinks, and popcorn! There was a few movies that came out that I desperately wanted to go see but wasn't able to. Then when we rented it I was like "That was dumb. Glad I didn't waste $35 (or more) on that!"

Bewitched was one of them. I loved the show and like Nicole Kidman but was not thrilled with the movie. It had it's moments but overall I was glad I saved my money.

DH doesn't like to go to the movies so I rarely go with him. DD is getting to the age when she likes to go with friends although she'll still go with me occasionally but I'm not usually thrilled with her movie choices. :teeth: Nothing like watching some Hillary Duff movie.

I like to go with my mom but she's out of town for a couple of months--so I guess my answer is not as often as I'd like to! I don't mind going by myself but it seems like I don't have a lot of extra time lately.

We average about 2-3 times a month (unless we have "events") its our date night.

and we have a free sitters, my parents.

Daxx's Wife here. I love going to the movies! However, as ticket prices have been increasing, I am more selective in the "first run" movies I go to see. There are some movies that I absolutely have to see (Harry Potter, Star Wars), some I'd like to see but can wait for the cheapie-show and others that can wait for the video or to come on HBO/Showtime/Etc.

However, if DS9 wants to see a movie, we'll usually go. For him, movies are a treat. Daxx usually skips out on the "kiddie" shows unless it's something he wants to see or if it's something I don't care to see (ie: Valiant).

I am tired of spending money on "grown up", first run movies that just stink!!! If DS9 is enjoying a movie, even if I'm not, at least I know that my money was well spent.

For most movies, I'd rather wait it out and go to the cheapie show. There isn't much out that I have been dying to see, anyway! Thank goodness for the cheapie shows!!!!

Two or three times a month, sometimes more. DS and I like to go during matinees and we never get anything to eat or drink which makes the price reasonable.

We usually go every Friday night. With or without kids. We love the movies!!

Once a year at most. We decided to take the money we would've spent on going to a theater, and put it into our home entertainment instead. It's too costly now to justify going to a theater to see most of the garbage put out by the industry---seriously, what was the last really good movie that was put out that wasn't a rehash of an older movie, tv series, or sequel? Ugh. :rotfl: It's irritating because we love movies, but it's not worth almost $100 for one night's worth of mediocre entertainment!

The last movie we went to see in the theatre was Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in June of 2004! :rotfl2: My DD was born in March of 2004 and I left my job then to be home with her. My mother would watch her so babysitters are not a problem. But being a SAHM, money is tight and most movies are not worth the cost of seeing them on the big screen. For what it costs, I'd rather go out and have a little dinner somewhere and then come home and watch a DVD and be more comfortable at the same time. I did want to see Bewitched but we never made it due to a busy summer with parties and all, and the same goes for my DH who wanted to see the last Star Wars movie, but we now are looking forward to renting both of those. We actually are planning to see the next Harry Potter movie which comes out on Nov. 18 in the theatre, since we are big Harry Potter fans.

Lots of times. During the summer and after Thanksgiving, almost every week. If it's a movie not fit for the kids, DH and I will alternate - I'll go one day, then he'll go the next day. We usually go matinees unless we have free tickets.

If it's a kids movie, we'll go watch it either at a drive-in or the cheapie theater because the kids really don't care about the sound system or FXs.

I categorize movies into 3 categories - Must see in theater, can wait for DVD, can wait for TV.

My husband and I can never agree on what to see so we just never go. The last movie I saw in the theatre was Madagascar with my daughter. The next one I will be seeing is Chicken Little, again with my daughter. She is a great date :goodvibes

I will be going to see Harry Potter, but most likely by myself. I might take my nephew.

A couple of times a year - usually only things we specifically want to see on the big screen. We saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on summer vacation, We saw the last Star Wars flick, DH plans to go by himself to see Doom, and he and the boys will go to the latest Harry Potter when it comes out. We don't eat or drink at movies (I don't see the point, and it's so overpriced) and dh and I just go by ourselves if there's something we want to see and the other one doesn't.

If we are going out for a date we'd rather go see community theatre or a local concert. We wait for movies to turn to rentals.

Once or twice a year. It takes a really good movie to tempt me to endure lousy theater etiquette.

Usually once a week. Last weekend, we went twice. Did I mention we get in FREE? :)

Two or 3 times a month usually.

We've actually gone the last 4 Friday nights. We can get $5 tix from DH's employer and we have no kids at home to get a sitter for.

herc.

Once or twice a year. Not many movies interest me either on Video or in the theaters. Things are too violent for me. I just don't like action films or kids movies. Doesn't leave much out there anymore.
