How often do people get bumped up?

Hello!
My family is going to WDW in 3 weeks and we are staying at the Poly. We will have a garden level view and there are 5 of us. How often are people bumped up to higher level rooms? (I would be happy to have a lagoon view room, but we just couldn't afford it.)

Don't count on it. Sure it happens but not much. I've stayed 50+ and was upgraded from standard to pool view once. We stayed Poly GVC, I asked about Lagoon View and was told sure I could be upgraded for $100 a night more. No Thanks, my opinion it wouldn't be worth it.

Not very often at all. You tend to hear about it here on the DIS boards but when you stop to realize how many resort rooms there are, the number of guests that are bumped up a level is miniscule. It's nothing I would ever even think about.

When we checked into the Poly in April (booked a standard, garden view room), we were upgraded to concierge on check in! It was fabulous!

Whenever guests get a free upgrade at check-in it's totally random and can happen at anytime.

We have stayed on site over 20 times and have never gotten anything other than what we reserved/paid for. As someone mentioned, we hear about upgrades on the boards, but we don't hear about the thousands of visitors who don't get upgraded.

I like to think of getting upgraded the same way I think of winning the lottery - it happens to some people, and if it happened to me - GREAT!, but I don't plan my life or my trip around it.

Maybe the upgrade fairy will work for you!

Last year we were upgraded from a standard room at BC to a concierge level room! They told us we had received a "Dream" from the "Year of a Million Dreams"!!

When we stayed at WL we were upgraded from standard to courtyard view bunkbed!

We have stayed at POFQ and on another trip at POR - we were upgraded to a waterview room both times!

I just realized that means we have been upgraded everytime!!

So it does happen!!!

My dh actually did get upgraded from a standard room at YC to concierge in Jan..it was part of the YOAMD..nice for him.

2 out of 7 visits both in the only year we went twice:

June 2005 - Bumped up from moderate to deluxe!
August 2005 - Bumped up to best view (deluxe resort)
