How often do DVC'ers use Mousekeeping?

I was just wondering whether most of you use the benefit of housekeeping services even with a fee. Or do most of Fellow Dvc'ers do their own laundry and/or use linens and supplies very carefully? It will be interesting to know.
I'll admit sometimes I do wish I could come back to a freshly cleaned room, and not have to think about it....

I've owned for almost 10 years, never paid for housekeeping once. Never missed it, even a little.

I have been a DVC member for 16 years and have not used mousekeeping for my DVC stays. I kind of like taking care of my "home away from home".

We typically prefer to keep our own space. We're happy to clean as we go and don't want to try to work it out that we're not around when they show up.

In the 10+ years of being a DVC Member I have never used Mousekeeping other than the traditional Trash and Towel Day and I don't miss it. If we need clean towels then I toss them in the washer!

We didn't use mousekeeping on our first (and only) trip so far. Didn't miss it. We loved having the laundry unit when we were at BLT.

We are paying cash for a room at BWV this December and, even though its free, we plan to use mousekeeping only about as often as we would if staying on points. We prefer not to have anyone in our room when we are gone and hate having to plan our day around when mousekeeping was coming to clean.

Then again, we don't wash our sheets and towels everyday at home, and don't need that on vacation. Until I read disboards, I wasn't aware that anyone did that in this age of working couples. And now, of course, we can also take pride that refusing such service also means we are helping Disney go green!-- Suzanne

10 years in Dec. and never had a need to get extra mousekeeping but what is offered... The trash we just take them every morning we leave the Villa :)

We've owned for 7 years, and just take care of our own things. It's not a problem for us to take care of ourselves. I'd much rather do it myself because I don't have to worry about someone knocking on the door at inconvenient times wanting to clean the place everyday. I like having the laundry too because it's less things we have to pack since we have the capability to wash our own things as we need them. We only change our sheets on our beds once a week at home, so I really don't see a purpose in having mousekeeping do it on a daily basis either.

Agreed. We swap out towels on Trash and Towel but no cleaning until we leave. I do it.

In all my hotel stays (far too many to keep track of) I think I returned to a freshly cleaned room less than a handful of times. Usually we'd be either in the room or just returning to the room when housekeeping was in there. (Once she was using the facilities :rotfl:) Because of this I find housekeeping annoying. DVC allows me to relax and not be concerned with when the housekeeper will be along so we can be out of her way and no knocks at the door at 9am on a day we want to sleep in. I can run a vacuum around, pick up, make beds and wash towels if need be. It's part of who I am, I don't consider it work, just second nature. The kids are perfectly capable of doing their share too.

Now making dinner, although it's healthier and less expensive to eat in, I do consider work... maybe if we could order up a (cute) chef to do our in room cooking... :rolleyes1

We don't do mousekkeeping, and if you need privacy during the trash and towel days, be sure to use the privacy door sign....enough said on that! :rolleyes1

We've owned for 13 years and have never had unscheduled housekeeping. Just what they had scheduled already - every four days (T&T or full cleaning as scheduled).

This is my thought, too. We don't get daily housekeeping at home and don't really need it when traveling either. Matter of fact, since DVC I've started putting out the "Do Not Disturb" sign at regular hotels such that I don't see the need for clean towels everyday.

If we need to, we just wash the towels.

Perfectly happy NOT to have them coming in every day! Don't miss it one bit!!

We keep our room tidy and do our towels as needed. Would rather not
have service when we are not there. We also clean-up what ever is needed before we leave and run the dishwasher. If the trash needs to go we take
it out and find a trash can for it. I like it that way.

Thanks for all the replies. All of the reasons you have given for how you work it out are good ones. It's probably the chocolates at turn-down that I miss the most:) I guess I"ll just have to make a visit by the gift shop and get my own supply to provide that little touch myself.

Never in 10 years,and I doubt I ever will!

I'm confused.. I am looking into being a DVC member, but they don't provide mousekeeping like the hotels do? I thought it was the same but with "like home" conveniences?

I love going on vacation for the perks.. someone else to make my bed and have my room look pretty when I get back from having fun. How much do they charge for the mousekeeping at DVC?

You only get housekeeping services every four days. If you stay 7 nights or less, on day 4 (with day one as check in day), you will get your trash removed and towels replaced. If you stay 8 nights or more, you get a full cleaning on day 4 and trash and towel service on day 8. Then the cycle repeats if you are staying at least 12 nights.

You can get other services, but you will have to pay for them. No extra toiletries, no extra towels for free except every four days.
