I just want to know how often they check the rides for damage, problems, etc. I might ride some thrill rides if they are checked often.

Bump so you get a response...But I do think that they have engineers check their rides VERY frequently, I'd be surprised if it wasn't at least like a once a week maintence check by engineers since the rides are in use so much and all year round (unlike other theme parks that may just be open in summer months).

I hope someone can confirm one way or the other for you though! :wizard:

I remember hearing on a "behind the scenes" TV show that each attraction is checked every night after the parks close.
Also, the rides that have seat belts or other restraints have safeguards like lights for each seat that let the CMs know whether or not the restraint is secured and the attraction's computer won't let the attraction operate if everything is not OK.

During my college days I worked at Star Tours. All sims. were cycled through each AM and PM to make sure they were running properly prior to guests riding. Also has a computer panel that shows when each seatbelt is buckled. There is a camera in each sim. so that CM can watch what is happening in each sim. If a problem is detected there is an emergency stop button that CM pushes and ride immediately stops. :)

When we stayed at PP in DL as I don't really sleep that much I loved our park view .Each night the rides I could see were checked and the steam cleaning of the park into the hours right up until opening time.

I can't speak for the rides but I know that the attraction I work at (a 3D film) is checked every day. We have opening checklists that the CM's go through to make sure all show effects, lights, and emergency stuff (fire ext, exit signs, etc.) are working properly. After park close maintence comes in and checks out everything as well and makes repairs as needed during the night. I can only imagine that the same or more is done for the rides.

Assuming disney is just like most other amusement parks I would say everyday. The media has made thrill rides into these evil death machines when actually they are some of the safest machines out there. (excepting for carnivals thats a different story).

At my home park maintainance walks the track every morning checking for irregularities, etc. Usually the park recommends the ride ambassadors (reg. employees) walk the track as well, you know two sets of eyes. Ride ambassadors are trained to pick up on any ride irregularities (what a bad wheel sounds like etc) and to shut down the ride immediatly if they should even suspect something might be wrong. At the end of every season each train is completely disassembled and any fatigued part is replaced.

Another misconception is that people feel scared that if their restraint fails they will somehow be hurt of die. I saw a post from a lady who wouldn't let her child ride because the horse collar restraint did fit well. The restraints are there as a back up in most cases. Gravity, specificially positive g-forces (X the regular force of gravity) keep you in your seat. The same way those rides that stick you to the side of the wall do. Gravity never fails.

Almost every ride accident or fatality is due to rider's doing something stupid usually something to do with undoing the safety belt and standing up on a ride. If you follow the posted rules you will be completely safe.

My last comment... we always joke about this but its true. the most dangerous ride you will take on any trip to an amusement park/theme park is you ride to the park in a car/bus.

Above all. remember to have fun!
