My hubby does not particularay like hotels but he grins and bears it when we go on vacation every year. The two things that bother him the most is the size of the rooms and the noise of guests.

Since we are now buying DVC we will have more room so should not be a problem anymore. Well what about noise. I must admit I also find this annoying at times since I am a light sleeper. I know it's all part of the vacation experience but can anyone tell me if the villas are less noisey than regular rooms? I don't care during the day, but when it is after 11:00 and I hear doors slamming and kids running and adults talking loud it is pretty annoying. How do you find noise level?

SSR and OKW are EXTREMELY quiet resorts. At SSR, I couldn't even hear the fireworks from DDT when they used to have that. At OKW, the only noise might be if you happen to have running children on the floor above you or (God forbid) one who likes superballs!

Yes we would love to try both those place, we are buying into AKV. hopefully in is queit.

If you stay in a studio, you will hear as much hallway noise as you would in a regular hotel room. If you stay in a 1BR, your bedroom is far enough away from the hallway door that you won't hear the hallway noise, even with the bedroom door open. The other possible source of noise is from the outside, through the sliding door to the balcony. My experience at AKL has been that if you have a savanna view room, you might hear some animal noises at night, but not much else. I expect AKV will be the same. If you have a standard view villa (pool view or parking lot view) then you might hear some people noise through the sliding door I suppose.

Have you read the Unoffical Guide of Walt Disney World? It has some very detailed information about room noise. From what I read there it is alway quieter with a room with outside entrances (like OKW and SSR) because they have to install heavier doors. We stayed at SSR and I was amazed at how quiet it was. We opened the sliding door and it was really loud outside, but with the door closed it was like we were in our own little world. We were in a studio that faced DtD.

FWIW, SSR has rooms that are soundproofed. Very, very important to us as we also have noise "issues" :rotfl:

At this time SSR is the only DVC to have soundproofed rooms. When we were there in February, one of the CM's told us the rooms were soundproofed because of noise from DTD. I asked if future DVC's would be soundproofed and he said no.

We stayed in Congress Park with a water view of DTD and the room was sooo quiet. It was great.

You might want to ask your guide if they plan on soundproofing AKL. Doesn't hurt to ask despite what the CM told me in February.

I will tell you that although we want to try all the DVC resorts at some point or other, we will probably book SSR the majority of the time when staying at WDW because of the soundproofing.

Soundproofed? I was in a room right across from the elevators and we could clearly hear people talking while they got on and off. Their voices really echoed in that hallway. There was also a kid bouncing a basketball while he walked up and down the hallway. Granted it wasn't as noisey as what we've experienced at BCV, but you could definitely hear them. I'd say if you want peace and quiet, ask for a room away from the elevators.

And just for fun, note the Unofficial Guide's room noise tests were conducted with a sound meter, a boombox, and The Who's "Baba O'Riley."

This is my experince. The Hotel type rooms are noisier. The rooms that exit to the outside are extremely quiet (OKW, SSR). I always ask not not be near the elevator or storage rooms. If you can get a top floor room, all the better :cool1:

I have found DVC resorts to be quite quiet ---although we were in a studio at OKW in March and did not hear any people noise but the bus noise was really bad and I do mean really bad.

As someone else noted, buses. You may hit this anywhere though. I always try for a room away from the bus stops or at least on the other side of the building from the bus stops. They will show you a resort map when you check in. OKW away from where the buses turn around; SSR other side of the building; VWL water side of the building. These have worked well. Stayed at BCV but don't remember; Haven't stayed at BWV yet, but thats another story all together :confused3

Our door was on the second floor right next to the elevators and we could not hear a thing. (We were in a 1 bedroom and it has the foyer, so that might have helped). We have been constantly amazed how quite the rooms are at SSR.

We were amazed at how quiet SSR was during our first trip. We were VERY happy.

SSR is going to be your quietest choice, as others stated it is the only resort to add special soundproofing.

I think they are only "soundproofed" in Congress Park on the Down Town Disney side. This was to block out the fireworks noise from when they had the fireworks. I think all they did was use thinker glass on the sliders. I'd don't think all of Saratoga is sound proof.

We stay primarily at VWL and try for either a dedicated studio or a 1 bedroom as they seem quieter to us. This usually precipitates long walks down the hallway but we don't mind as not many people are passing in front of your door. I think all of us (self included) need to remind ourselves occasionally that we need to be considerate of our fellow DVC'ers when we're in the hallway or walkway and be quiet.

I was in a 1-bedroom, second floor. We were often there during the day, visiting with our family. The next door neighbors were especially loud when coming and going.

I too am a "light sleeper" and having stayed at SSR on 3 seperate occassions I must say that it is pretty quiet. I always request 4th floor towards an end if available.....so far 2 out of 3 times my request was granted! The only noise I do recall hearing on a regular basis was the one time that we were on the 3rd floor and the people above us liked to use the bathroom.....ALOT!!!!! I must say that TOILET IS LOUD at SSR!!!

JerJan, I was going to say the samething about the toliets at VWL!

Back to the original question from the OP, we stayed at SSR at Thanksgiving didn't hear any noise(we were at CP and had a view of DTD). We were away from the elevators, maybe that helped.

Stayed at VWL earlier this month and it was really quiet(I don't think it was anywhere near being full or all the guests were as quiet as mice).
