Question for all you:

I have a friend who is going to Disney. I have been very busy at work, so she was hesitant to ask me for help with her trip. Anyway, she is paying a travel agent $200 to help her plan the trip. The travel agent is doing PS's and providing information on the resorts, ticket prices, package prices ect. but my friend is doing all her own bookings. The travel agent is basically just giving her advice/information. For an extra $50 the agent will put together a customized touring plan for her family.

I told her she could have asked me for all this for free, but she didn't want to bother me. She wanted help sorting through the mounds of information to plan her trip. She decided not to do a package through her regular travel agent cause they didn't fit her families needs.

My question is, would you pay this much for that kind of service? I thought she was nuts, but maybe a lot of people are willing to pay for some hand holding.

I'll do it for her for $100. Nope wouldn't pay someone else, that would take all the fun out of it. :firefight

I agree, I wouldn't pay for that kind of service either. Even if it was free, I still would rather have the enjoyment of planning everything myself.

I think it's almost more fun to anticipate and plan for a vacation to WDW then even going can be. Perhaps I'm the only crazy one like that though? :)

I wouldn't pay for that. Planning the trip is part of the fun. But hey, if she's willing to pay someone to make her PSs for her, I'll do it for her and she can pay me the $200. ;)

No way would I pay a travel agent. I enjoy the planning and think I can do a better job than a TA would anyway. I thought TA's were not supposed to charge for their services.

I also like to plan my Disney trips myself. I'm surprised the TA is charging, I use them for all other travel and have NEVER paid a penny to a travel agent. I thought they got commissions from wherever they booke their clients into.

Count me in as a "NO".

Have her call Disney Travel. They are wonderful and can provide great deals. I am using them again this year. Disney Travel's telephone number is 1-407-939-6244.

I agree . . . planning the trip is the most fun. But if she doesn't have the time, call Disney Travel. Also, if she is a AAA member, Disney Travel recognizes that and she can get an even better deal! :flower:

Oh, and one more thing . . . let her know that oftentimes it is more cost effective for DT to piece together a trip versus a package deal.

I get my air fare, hotel and park hopper tickets through them and end up being very pleased with the prices. :flower:

No way....

First, I've never heard of a TA charging anyone to begin with. I'm guessing the TA is charging because she was told upfront that your friend isn't booking with her. I know many service people get perturbed when they do all of the work and then see nothing in return. In any case, I think that planning for Disney is part of the fun. I'm getting so psyched doing all of this and we've been before. I, personally, don't find planning Disney very hard...yes, it may be overwhelming but that is what the Disboards are for! :rotfl: Also, read books and whatnot.

Is this a travel agent or a personal planner? I have a friend who hires a personal planner for manny of her vacations and parties etc.... The woman charges to do everything for her. She is NOT a travel agent.
Just wondering since I never heard of a travel agent charging.

I don't charge clients to book their PS and for advice about resorts and things to do. If you are booking the package for the person, the TA receives commision. Why doesn't your friend book it through an agency where she would get all the above benefits without the $200 charge. Wouldn't she come out way better that way?

I wouldn't pay - I'm the family's trip planner and I love it!

I also wouldn't do it for others FOR A FEE - that would be too much like work. I have done it for others - friends and family - for free, but that's more giving advice and general suggestions; they can call for PS themselves. ;)

Real travel agents are free. Your friend is getting ripped off. Some people charge for "itenerary planning", but you can help with that.
