How much would you pay for a used jogger?

Our previous stroller died after our last trip to Disney :-( and we are planning another trip for the end of this July and will probably go again within the next 12 months. I have thought about just renting a jogger but I also thought that if I buy a gently used one before or next trip that I would still be able to use for a few more trips since DD just turned 4 and will still be needing one for at least another year. So, how much would you pay for a gently used stroller at a garage sale or a kids consignment store? TIA

It really depends on the brand. I would do a few searches on ended auctions on ebay to see what each brand/model is fetching before you go shopping. I would imagine that you would pay less at a garage sale, but probably closer to ebay prices at a consignment store. I would also make sure that you get a model with a swivel front wheel (much easier to navigate when walking).

Have you considered buying a new umbrella stroller, like the Maclaren Volo? You can get one for around $100, and it usually accommodate bigger kids (I would go try one at Babies R Us to see how your child fits). For the price, you would probably get your money's worth. Jogging strollers are just generally pricier (there is just more to them).

For example, here is a 2009 Maclaren Volo that is $104 shipped (less than renting a stroller for two separate vacations)...

Before you order one, I would just take your child to try one in real life to make sure that she fits. If you don't have a BRU nearby (it has been a while since I have been in CS!), I have seen them at Target.

I hope that your trips go well!

I sold ours for $20 at a garage sale. It was gently used. But, I thought a basic umbrella stroller was the best. It folded up easier to put on the bus. We put the backpack on the back of it when they were in it and sat the backpack in it when we were not using it. When it rained we put a poncho over it.

I spent $150 on one yesterday! It's a Phil and Teds and is in almost brand new condition. I feel like I scored big time!!

I can't give advice on a single, but my Step 2 double jogger was about $250 new and I sold it after about 18 months for about $100. It was too heavy and bulky for car trips (I visited family several hours away often), so I bought something lighter.

just be careful which one you choose to either buy or rent -- WDW has some kind of rules about stroller size, and I think the front wheel has to swivel or something. (Hopefully someone who kinows the official specifications will post, I just know I remember seeing posts with the link to WDW's official policy)

We picked up a used double jogger (old style, no moveable front wheel) at Goodwill for $25. I took the whole thing apart, threw it in the wash, and it looked like a brand new stroller!

As for the post from taximom... my parents took that stroller in and it has a fixed front wheel. They were never reprimanded for having it in the parks OR on the busses. We're taking it back this fall.

The only thing you absolutely can't have is a wagon.

I went to WDW's website (http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/faq/theme-parks/#subCategory8, and found this information about stroller specifics.

Items that you may not bring into the theme parks include but are not limited to:

* Items with wheels, such as:
o Wagons
o Skateboards
o Scooters
o Inline skates
o Shoes with built-in wheels
o Strollers larger than 36" x 52" (92 x 132 cm)
o Suitcases, coolers or backpacks with or without wheels larger than 24" (61 cm) long x 15" (38 cm) wide x 18" (46 cm) high. (Coolers required for medication may be stored in a locker or at Guest Relations.)
o Any trailer-like object that is pushed or towed by an ECV wheelchair or stroller
* Alcoholic beverages
* Weapons of any kind
* Folding chairs
* Glass containers (excluding baby food jars and perfume bottles)
* Pets (unless they are service animals)

In Disney's Animal Kingdom theme Park (for the safety of the wildlife), balloons, straws and drink lids are not permitted.

I must assume that the fixed wheel thing was mentioned for people trying to take the jogger onto the bus...I remember people recommending swivel wheel in the front, or removable front wheel. Maybe it's unwieldly on the crowded bus, with the fixed front wheel attached??

Garage sale..about $20...consignment shop...about half retail maybe more depending on condition.

Keep in mind, the double has to fit through the gate. I took a double once and it had to be lifted over. In reality they shouldn't have let me bring it in. I also dind't have the swivel wheel. (I didn't know--I had seen joggers so assumed mine was ok and didn't notice that the ones I saw had the swivel wheel.)

I'm not sure if they still do this, but if you have an unauthorized size stroller, they will comp you a rental for free and then store your contraband stroller.

But it is better if you just make sure teh stroller meets the requirements so that you do not have to worry. :)
