How much would you pay for a clean house?

Maybe shut off a couple rooms and only have them clean the main areas of the house and bathrooms. You or your husband could maybe find the time to handle the other rooms.
Or like someone suggested have a young teen (13-14 years) come over once a week to play with your kids & tend to the baby while you clean. You may enjoy the little break from the kids. You'll still be at home, if she needs you. That may be less expensive than paying someone to clean.

Wayyyy too expensive! DH and I have a two story, four bedroom, 3 bath home - 2000sq ft. No kids but two kitties who leave their fur everywhere :)
I have a housekeeper come in every two weeks and pay her $80.00. Does the windows and changes the sheets on the bed as well...

I haven't had one for 10 years - but it was $75 for our four bedroom three bath home, plus $25 to come pick up between cleanings - AND she picked up toys and washed sheets and towels. - Twin Cities.

Wow! I think I love Janet (my cleaner) that much more now. She's the MIL of a friend of mine. She comes every other week and cleans our 2200 sqft 4 bed/ 2.5 bath. I supply the cleaners, but she can bring her own for $5 more. She cleans, and changes all our bedding. We pay her $65. She also is very flexible. We've had to cancel due to illness (her daughter is sick, and she care for her grandchildren here and there, so like to avoid illness), and she doesn't charge us anything for cancelling :)

We are having someone clean our house right now. They are two ladies and this is the first clean which is more. I'm paying $120 and then $85 every two weeks. I have 3 BR's, 2 1/2 bathrooms, family room, living room, play room, and kitchen. Looking at just the upstairs that they've completed, it is so worth the money! I just couldn't keep up with all my little ones. And honestly I feel like I should be paying them more. I feel so bad. They are working their butts off.

They cleaned off all the toys in the toy room! I could not believe it, and I did not expect that. They changed the sheets, even organized some of the crap I couldn't get to. I told them don't worry about it, it's too cluttered to clean, but they cleaned the surface and then organized it into nice little piles. I would definitely get a referral though. If you're going to pay someone, you want them to do a good job.

Depends on where you live. I have the same size home as you and paid almost double what you did. The cost of living really has a lot to do with it.

Do you need them to just clean or do the straightening, too?

For just the cleaning (4 br, 2 1/2 baths - vacuum, mom, dust, bathrooms, kitchen, she cleans the fridge and oven and does windows occasionally, will change the beds if I leave out sheets) I pay $100 every 2 weeks.

She won't do picking up though. She's strictly cleaning. Most cleaning people around here (I've heard) won't do the picking up, or if they do, charge A LOT more.

I wouldn't expect them to do the picking up and didn't even realize some of them did that. We would do a family pick up the night before. That's why I only want the toyroom cleaned by them once a month because picking up down there is a chore.

I have several friends who clean houses in our area. They are paid $10-$14 per hour. Supplies are furnished by the homeowner and the homeowners all have insurance which will cover their housekeepers in case of injury or accidental breakage of homeowner's items.

One of my friends told me she starts out asking $20 per hour but so far has not found anyone who will give her more than $12 per hour. She has about five different folks she works for each week, generally 3-4 hours each house and she cleans each house weekly.

Man, I think I need to move. Around here the going rate is $30/35 an hour. There is no way you will find a decent person for less than that. I was paying $25/hour 10 years ago.

I haven't had a housekeeper in 6 years. I'd love to get one again, but I cannot justify $35/hour.

If there is a college around where you live, you could try advertising around there. When I was a student, I found a job cleaning houses through my college's career services department and was paid $15/hour (17 years ago). I would go for 3 hours on a Friday afternoon. My babysitter cleans houses for $20/hour here in Maine. I think the cost varies by region.

Again, as many have stated, it depends largely on the cost of living where you are. I live in East Tennessee, in a very nice part of our small town. My house is 3000 sf, with 4 BR & 3.5 BA. My cleaning lady comes every other week. She's here for 5 to 5-1/2 hours, and she cleans everything except our playroom. That's the kids' responsibility. And she only does the guest room if we're having guests or have just had guests. She changes our beds, washes the towels, vacuums, dusts, and mops everything. She'll clean out any closet or pantry I specify. My microwave and stainless steel appliances are spotless. She uses all of her own, bio-friendly cleaning products. She uses my vacuum. All of this for $85 a cleaning. I knew her as a parent when I had her children in school. She then worked a year in our school's cafeteria, so I knew she'd had a background check. I totally trust her in my home, and my dog adores her! I'm glad I got on her schedule when I did, because she is full now!

2 years ago I had Maid Pro come every week. It was $125 each time (+ tip)and the girl really did a nice job. 3 bed/3.5 baths and she cleaned the basement area every other time. I really miss it, but I really really enjoy using the $$ saved to vacation. It was more expensive to use a company, but I really don't know anyone that had an individual clean for them.

That seems really high to me, but I'm sure that it is dependent on where you live too. I have a pretty large house-- 5 BR, 7 BA and we only pay $185 to have the whole house cleaned.

When you interview the cleaning people, MAKE SURE YOUR HOUSE IS PICKED UP! If they see a mess, they won't believe you even when you say it will be picked up & they will quote more or even quote ridiculous because they don't want the job!

I get my house cleaned every 2 weeks so that is it clean (as in no dirt, clean toilets), it does get messy, but I can handle that a lot better than dirt.

Also, trust your gut, you are their employer. They might be in your house when you are not home, they might have access to keys, valuables, private information, etc.

I love the woman who cleans my house, I've been through a few.

I have cleaners about 3X a month. It costs $138 with tax. They clean 2 of our bathrooms and 3 of our bedrooms plus family room, living room, dining, kitchen, foyer and a very large pantry-storage-dressing area. We have 3 baths and 4 bdrms. I don't have them clean the guest room/bath more than once a month and when they do, they skip another. It's Merry Maids and I went through a few teams before I found the team I wanted to stick with-in other words, not all cleaners are great at it. So, if your mother loves these women, make friends with them by tipping them and get them to clean your house. They know that if it's every other week, the job is harder.

Holy cow!! :scared1: I have a 5 bedroom/5.5 bath house in NOVA and paid $100 every other week up until last year. Now we clean it ourselves because all the kids are older and can help. Was your friend's cleaning a one shot cleaning? Even our neighbors who have even larger houses than we do don't pay over $170.

Her's was a "get it ready to go on the market" cleaning. They were supposed to clean everything, even the baseboards and ceilings. But, sadly, they didn't clean to her expectations and she didn't get what she paid for.

I used to have someone clean my house when my son was younger. She charged $20 an hour and took about 2 hours. She just did basic cleaning like the bathrooms, kitchen and all floors.

My Mother pays $80.00 for a 3 bedroom,/2 bath 1900 square foot home in Rochester NY.

we psy 80 every other week, she hasn't raised her price in years. Our house is 3400 sf with 2.5 bath and 4 br. She doesn't clean the whole house, but we trust her.
