I say the $3 tip was sufficient for a $20 order. That's usually what we tip here unless the weather is horrible or its a busy time of year (super bowl party). Then we usually give a little more.

On top of them making normal wages, they do get mileage pay. Well at least I would assume so since they are using their private vehicle for work. And if they're job isn't paying it, then they can take it out in taxes when they file.

I know it's only like a quarter per mile or something small, but it's better than nothing. If gas is 3$ per gallon, and you get 20ish miles to the gallon, 7 miles per dollar, which is like 13-15cents per mile.

So a few bucks should be just fine. Now if your pizza was at your doorstop in like 15minutes pipping hot, that might be cause for an extra dollar. But regular 30-45min wait for delivery, 3 bucks is just fine.

On Friday we ordered pizza from Domino's and the total was $19.50 (including $1.50 delivery charge). We live a few minutes away but I didn't want to drag the kids out in the snow. I tipped him $3.50 and you would have thought he won the lottery. He was very thankful and appreciative. :thumbsup2

I didn't know how much to tip since we always pick our pizzas up when we order. :confused3

$3 is about what I give, but there is also a $2 delivery charge for Papa Johns (we don't like Dominos), so I assume (I know, don't assume) that the driver gets that, too? Maybe I am wrong?

We usually order one pie at about $13, so I think $3 is OK. The driver is always very grateful.

omg now i want pizza lol ,, oh well handing over a 20 and letting him keep the change is just find

he might just be having a bad day... or a normal grumpy person..

Although we have such a high COL, I'm always amazed at the pizza costs of other areas. There are probably 100 pizzarias within 5 minutes of my home, and most have free delivery, and a cheap pizza night. The cheap pizza night pies are between $7.50 - $8.50, without toppings, and they are very large pies. We do have a Dominos (never get it), and Papa Johns and Pizza Hut went out of business, so the rest are independent businesses.

I think that is fine for $17. I would have done the same thing and handed him a 20 dollar bill. Our total is usually $20 and we tip $5.

I tip around 10% for delivery (I almost always pick up though). I think you did great.
