Instead of hanging around and waiting on a delivery that might be late, I was thinking of getting a taxi and going to the nearest grocery store.. Has anyone done this and how much did it cost?? Which grocery store is closest??
I don't know about taxis and cost, but I know it can't be cheap.
Better yet, I can tell you about Gooding's, a small, independent grocery store that delivers to WDW property. It's more expensive that most grocery stores, but the greatest thing is that you don't need to schedule your delivery. Gooding's delivers to your resort's Bell Services. Bell Services then calls your room. If you're in, great, they'll bring you your groceries immediately. If you're not in, great, Bell Services will store your groceries for you. Gooding's separately bags and labels refrigerated and frozen items, and Bell Services will store them refrigerated/frozen as appropriate. Bell Services will leave a phone message for you. When you return to your room and see that phone message light flashing, retrieve your message. You'll call Bell Services and ask for your delivery, and they'll bring it to you soon.
It's this system (not having to schedule and then wait around for a delivery) that sold me on Gooding's versus any of the other services. I planned my trip, but I couldn't plan EXACTLY what we'd want to do on our first day, and if we felt like doing something different I didn't want to feel frustrated that I was locked into staying inside my room waiting for a delivery that may or may not come on time, all the while wasting valuable vacation time. You seem to be of the same mindset as me. Check out
www.goodings.com. $10 flat fee, $50 minimum. The listings on their website are pretty small, but rest assured they will deliver you anything they stock on their shelves. Just e-mail them with all special requests and I'm sure they'll be as great with you as they were with me. My favorite anecdote to tell about them. I ordered like 5 pounds of bananas, some ripe and some green so I'd have fresh ripe bananas all week -- they came through with flying colors.
Good luck!
