How much will the stimulus bill cost??

People hope the stimulus fails because they care about their country.

They want a protracted, deep recession because they love their country????? Wow, what would they want if they hated their country? Depression? Famine? Plague?

Hey genius, I had more money in my pocket, WITH those tax cuts, than I did without, so at least I was better off financially WITH them than without them. Deficit aside, my OWN finances were (and are) better.

You democrats are so amusing b/c... you just are.

Hey genius yourself. Read the title of the thread. We're talking about the Deficit not your own finances. ( I already know republicans care about themselves 1st and their country 2nd)

I'm going to chime in as someone who is neither Democrat or Republican, just someone with an outside opinion:

Seems like the Republican response is one HOPING that this plan fails just to prove their party is superior. To my knowledge, it was the Iraq war that greatly put the US in the posistion it is currently in. Are we going to blame the Democrats for that one?

Again, I could be wrong. I'm just stating how the replies on this thread make it sound. I don't subscribe to politcs in the least, but if someone forced me to decide on a whim which party I'd rather be in, judging by this thread, I would choose the Democrats.

The last two years the democrats were in charge. So what did they do???

The Fiscal year runs June-June I believe so it's hard to count the 1st budget but the 2nd had a reduced deficit outside of the War and TARP. (general Govt Spending went down)

But you didn't answer my question.

Why now are use using projected CBO numbers to to maintain one position ( cost of Stim Bill) while at the same time ignoring CBO numbers that show a position you support ( bush tax cuts ) was worst?

You republicans are so amusing with posts like this. The time to be screaming about fiscal irresponsibility was 6-8 years ago when surpluses turned into deficits.

I've been screaming about fiscal responsibility long enough to span more than one President. Just because I oppose this ridiculous bill, doesn't mean I didn't oppose any of Bush's ridiculous spending.

I agree - I was furious with Bush for his ridiculous spending and now we get more of it.

(I post on the Con thread, but I'm neither Repub or Dem - vote for the guy/gal who I agree with and I don't understand how putting our country in more debt is good for the country).

I loved that they couldn't allow the members of congress enough time to read the dang thing, because it was sooooo urgent, and then Obama sits on it all weekend. :sad2: Why couldn't they have gone through weekend, allowing the members and the public to read it, vote on it today, and then sign it tomorrow? Ridiculous. The only people being fooled by this dog and pony show are those who want to be fooled by it.

I guess I should have chosen better wording. Many had wished that the stimulus never passed because they love their country. This bill is nothing but wasted taxpayer dollars that will not save the economy. The only thing it will do will make the next several generations have to pay for it.

So you both were against the Bush tax cuts and would be happy if they were rolled back?

This bill lessens the impact of the debt on our economy.

Not Rep. or Dem. But as for the war, we became involved because Iraq was harboring/funding Al Qauda (sp?). The Democratic link to that would be that Bin Laden declared war on the U.S. in 1998 (under former Pres. Clinton). By the way, Iraq didn't think much of us back in June of 1993-when Clinton bombed them, either (part of his trial on "over stepping"). Bush's main political argument when he ran was that we were not going to take anymore terroristic by none other than...Bin Laden...it is one of the main things that got him elected. So, yes,I suppose Rep. could blame that on the Dems, too.:lmao:

I'm not trying to be argumentive, but would you mind explaining to me how?

I'm trying to see both sides, but I'm having a hard time doing so. All I see is more debt being added. I also don't get the additional tax cuts AND additional spending. Doesn't that add more to the national debt?

The debt increases, but that in and of itself is not important to the economy. What matters is the debt relative the size of our economy. This bill increases the size of our economy, so the debt is less relatively speaking.

Fiscal stimulus increases the economy by more than the amount of the stimulus. The fiscal spending is 800 billion, so the economy will increase by that amount, guaranteed. In addition you have to add all the private spending done by the people who get their hands on a piece of that 800 billion. If you get a 100 million dollar contract to build a school, your company will now be in a position to buy new equipment and hire new workers. The new workers will use their wages to buy things, and the equipment manufacturer will add more workers who will also spend their wages, and all that grows the economy over and above the 800 billion spent by the govt.

That is just sad. :(

Why would anyone want our country to fail?

Who wants the COUNTRY to fail?

Obama's policies failing; sure; but the country, nope.

Everyone wants the country to succeed. We just have different ideas on what it takes to succeed and what success means.

I'm confused. Do you want to see the stimulus fail and the country stay in a recession? Or do you want to see the stimulus succeed and the country get out of the recession?

The country will come out of the recession without the bill. I know several people on here have posted where economists have said it would have been over by the end of 2009 WITHOUT the stimulus package.

The country will NOT stay in a recession.
