How much we spent.

So very often I read threads wondering how much money to take, or how much the actual vacation costs. So this time, I recorded how much money we took, and subtracted how much money we brought back. It averaged out to $82.09 PP for meals, spending money and accomodation per day.

We spent $4903.07 total for 2 adults. That inclded our 2 annual passes of $1126.78, room at Pop Century for 23 nights, our meals, and a lot of shopping. We are not cheap, but we are careful with our money. If there is something we really wanted, like Hoop de Doo, or breakfast with Mary Poppins, we went ahead and did it. We had lovely steak dinners, and also quite a few quick service meals too. I thought it was interesting to break it down and see just how much we really spent, during value time in January.

Our airfare was of course paid for long before we went so it is not included.

So how much did you bring back?

25 nights!
Honestly, were you sick of it by the time you left, or could you have stayed longer?

To me you sum seems a little on the low side- but like you said- you went in Jan and stayed at a value resort. I don't mean your number are off, just that someone going another time of year would pay more for the same hotel and food. (Buffet prices fluctuate.)

The way I calulate my numbers- which I'm sure is not the norm- I look at the cost, figure how many hours we are awake on the average day - and come up with a rate per waking hour. I include airfare.

I typically get a number between $20- 30 per waking hour. The reason I do it that way is toput apricet ag on various cost cutting measures: grocery store trips, staying offsite, etc. It's is worthwhile only if I save over $20/hour that it takes away from my vacation. By my calculations, for example, leaving the parks to eat lunch offsite 'costs' too much time, but eating offsite on your way to/from the airport is worthwhile.

23 nights is like a short term lease.:thumbsup2:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Thanks for posting. Where did you stay?

The discount was through the annual pass- 30%off.

And no, we were not sick of it. It is DDs happy place, and of course we didn't go to a park every day. That's the beauty of an AP. If we wanted to go offsite for the day and just go to a park that night for the fireworks, we could do it. The AP also gave us a discount on some of our meals and spending. Mind you, the best deals for shopping are off site anyway. We go down every year for at least 3 weeks if we can, and thoroughly enjoy ourselves.

I trust that the CMs were not tired of us, and we sure appreciated all their kindnesses. As time went on, I learned to do the Hustle with them at 6:00pm, and got to know the Cms in the gift shop a little.

On a funny side note. We were at BOG for lunch. I started coughing and quickly spit the food in my mouth into my hand before I could aspirate it into my lungs. As I'm doing this, I'm think what a horrible thing I just did. I hope no one noticed. Well, at least I comforted myself with the knowledge that no one there knew me. All of a sudden I hear "I know you! How are you? I remember you from Pop Century last year. You used to do the Everything Pop Parade with us." It was a CM from Pop who now works at BOG.

But I really didn't intend for this thread to be about longer vacations. I just thought it was interesting how much we spent.

I would really like to see the run down of your costs. 25 days at WDW? The 5,000 doesn't include food, does it?

Thanks for sharing! Would you be willing to share a rundown of where you ate? I know that might be time consuming, but I would sure love to know, especially because you only had a fridge in your room! Now off to convince my husband he should take all of his vacation days at Disney...

That is awesome! I have told DH a long time ago that we will do that when our kids are gone:goodvibes

I would love to hear how the trip was, maybe a mini trip report:goodvibes

I can't imagine staying in a tiny hotel room for 23 nights.

I can:) How much time do people actually spend in the resort room. The grounds at POP are beautiful. DH and I like to take walks around there. Not to mention being on WDW property for that long. :lovestrucI'm not sure that would be long enough to even visit each resort and enjoy visiting for a few hours.

And, just think how much use you can get our of your refillable mugspopcorn::
