How much tweaking is normal?

I tweaked my plans at least twice a week on our last 2 trips. Changed ADR's , changed them back, changed FP then moved them around a lot. My final tweak was on FP. I decided to actually look at a map of each park and book them so they went in order and ended / began near our ADR's. Then I tweaked some more! I think it adds to the excitement :)

dtkids...you may learn a little about the best laid plans reading my very commando trip report linked in my signature. I do spreadsheets. I do touring plans and I was wrong starting on day two. Stuff happens. I have a more relaxed, general plan right now and food features more prominently for breakfast.

I have changed, added, dropped and modified ADRs and FP+ more times than I can count. We still have over 45 days until trip, I'm guessing final December hours will throw more curve balls at my plan... in my first time naivety, I thought plans would be set by now. I know 4th FP+ will be anyone's guess, but when will the rest of this be set? When we are finishing a meal or walking off a ride? Am I doing it wrong?!?!?

We tweek things like crazy people :) it’s honestly half of the fun for me...I love planning vacations, so I like going over the plans and thinking if there’s a better way to do it. I think what’s important is to then be flexible and open once you’re there and not turn the plan into the holy grail. You might have a FP for a ride, but your kids need a snack break and would rather watch the street entertainment going on right now - go with it. Or maybe the ride you were planning on going on now is down and you need to find something else to do.

4th FP - I start looking for it once I’m in line for my 3rd FP. Remember, if you’re searching for a specific ride you can refresh again and again and it might come up. Once it shows up grab it! Usually, once you take whatever time slot came up and then try to modify, the app will offer you more times available for that ride. You just need to keep refreshing.

Twerk, tweak...My Disney trip paper chain is down to three links. I don't think I could get more excited without hospitalization. There's no bacon at Ohana, Tower of Terror will take over an hour with FP, I had to waste a fp on ROL, it is going to rain on our Jedi Training day...And I am going to have the best time ever!!!!!

This made tears run down my face-hilarious.

We are 16-22. When will they release hours?!?!?!?
They have changed them today for some of our dates (MK opening at 8am, with 7am for EMH for example, and they've added extra EMH to MK). Keep an eye out as in the next few days to a week they will probably tweak your dates' hours as well.

Obviously it varies, so normal is whatever works for you and your party. I'm currently working on a trip for early January, can't book FP yet. Booked ADRs at 180 days and have made one change since (son decided he wants pizza and not tacos so, San Angel out - Via Napoli in). When I book FPs next week I'll fiddle with them a bit for the next couple weeks until I have exactly what I'm looking for and then just leave it alone.

The plans are almost the default based on assumed conditions - if the conditions change (and they almost certainly will), all that tweaking beforehand will have given you information you need to weigh your options for something better at that moment.

Agreed. I've long said on the DIS that we don't make a (specific) plan, but we're masters of strategy.

Funny thing is though, these days we don't 'optimize' nearly as much as we used to do. It just gets too stressful. Express Pass at Universal has spoiled us for the way touring ought to be. With EP, we tour US the way we used to tour WDW, and it is much more fun.

Disney continues to make their system more rigid, but they haven't improved their reliability to match. It is so very sad to see WDW failing in this way.

I hate the stress of being late at WDW for ADR's. You hustle to be on time- no thanks to the monorail being down - and then the restaurant can't seat you on time! And good grief, they had 180 days to prepare for my arrival!

As you say though, unexpected things happen. When WDW's system was forgiving, I could forgive their mistakes. Now that I'm being held to a more rigid system, I expect their system to work.

Good, I'm not alone! I even read the thread solely to see if anyone else had mis-read the same thing!

I wondered if it was just my foolish brain & within microseconds realised my error;
First thought was deffo where's all the twerking happening?!
