How much trouble is it to upgrade from Deluxe to Signature AP?

I have a family of 5. We are planning to get APs for a trip this month. I am trying to buy discounted Disney Gift Cards to bring the cost down. I would like to try and spread out my spending though. I was wondering how much trouble/time would it be (any problems with AP glitches on MDE?) if I buy 1 Signature and 4 Deluxe now (so we get discounts) and upgrade the other 4 Deluxe to Signature on a future April trip? This will allow me to put off $920 for later in April. We only need Signature for our April trip because the Deluxe has Saturdays blacked out.

Is this fairly easy to do at a ticket booth and I'll just bring $1k of gift cards to cover the upgrade costs with me?

No problem at all! I upgraded from Signature to Premier, which is more complicated, and it only took me 15 minutes or so. The only delay may be if you have multiple gift cards. Use https://www.disneygiftcard.com/ to combine into one or two.
