how much to tip in the dinning rooms?

On average, each serving team is assigned 18 guests per seating. Works out to 36 guests per cruise.

I have also heard from many different servers that about 20% don't tip at all. That's why you see so many empty tables on Friday night.

I've spoken with servers who were college professors, engineers and other white collar jobs but came to DCL because they could make more money and support their families back home.

These folks work hard for their money and spend six months at a time away from their families. I think they earn every penny.

Just curious...what does not tipping have to do with empty tables on a Friday night...especially on the 4 day cruises which sail Sun->Thur?

man U know who works way harder then the servers and longer that derve tips as well but im pretty sure dont get any, are the cooks! the people that actually make the food! they have to go in several hours b4 to prep, and after to clean up!

Prior to the end of your cruise you are provided with envelopes to tip your servers and room steward. Typically you would give these to your servers at your final dinner which on a seven day cruise would be on Friday night, so that is probably what the poster was talking about. Apparently people who choose not to tip just don't show up for dinner on the last evening to avoid feeling embarrassed. Now I understand why I saw empty tables on our last night. I assumed people were still packing and thought it was sad that they had to miss their last dinner. I guess some of them just didn't come so they could avoid seeing their servers. That's really pathetic.
