How Much to Tip Housekeeping

[nutshell]

I've never tipped housekeeping at a hotel before (I hope my toothbrushes were OK!!!).



Anywho, we're staying at a 2 bedroom suite at DLH and I want to leave a tip each morning when we leave. How do I do this? My kids have decorated envelopes and written "thank you" on them. I want to put cash in them and leave them for housekeeping. Will this work? How much should I leave?

$1 per person tipped each morning. More if you are extrememly messy.

I have to say, as a person that waited tables and earned tips and really valued my tips, I can never figure out all the other tipping! I am ashamed to say I have not tipped housekeeping appropriately! Well, I am a new and informed person now, and will make up for it! I promise!

But hey, I am still not tipping a buck for those outrageously overpriced coffee drinks!

We tip a dollar or two per person...left in the bathroom with the housekeeper card...we tip housekeeping for turndown service also...a dollars per bed left in an envelope on our made beds...sometime it is not possible to leave a tip for turndown...but most of the time we are back in our rooms for a rest period...and will leave one then...jc

We tip a dollar or two per person...

So how do we know how many people come in there to clean up the room? We are never around when they come by.

Hi Mommylove...We tip a dollar (or two) per person in the room...There are five of us going...so between $5.00 to $10.00 is what we tip...
I also do the mousekeeper envelopes...we do the morning envelope and a turndown envelope...already printed and ready to go...JC (five more days )

Oh my gosh, I must be tired, LOL! I was thinking the "per person" meant the staff, not us! Ok, I get it now.

Even though it is just my 9 year old dd and myself and we are pretty neat, I always tip $5 a day. I guess it's because I can still clearly remember all those years ago when I was working my way through school waitressing and how much a nice tip meant.

My dd decorates envelopes for each day. Mousekeeping really seems to appreciate it. We have gotten the most amazing towel animals on each visit (not why we do it but still nice). Last visit the mousekeeper made my dd a minnie mouse doll to take with her made totally out of towels. It was amazing!

I usually tip $5 a night that we are there. I consider it a service that they perform much like any waiter or waitress would at dinner....especially considering that my family is rather messy at times.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Housekeeping isn't even a tipped profession. Tips are not expected or needed. If you feel you've had great service and want to tip, that's fine...but it is in no way customary to tip housekeeping.

I have never tipped them before either. I remember my grandma telling me once (a couple yrs back) that she would tip at the end of her stay at a hotel. I'm not sure how much, but she would wait until the day of checkout.

I am not sure I agree with this statement. I think in nicer hotels it is quite customary to tip housekeeping.

I'm not saying that I am like my mother who makes sure the beds are already made and absoultley everything is put away (can't even leave your toothbrush/paste out) before leaving the room, but things are tidy. I like them making my bed and leaving clean drinking glasses and yes, (bash all you want) fresh towels each day.

Not another one!!!

My parents are staying with us on our trip in November and mom and I have already had "the talk" about not making my bed or putting my belongings away. I do pull the blankets up on the bed and make sure that clothes are put away, but I do leave toiltries(sp?) on the counter in my overnight kit, just not put away in the drawers or suitcases!!
I told her that she can do what she wants with their bed and belongings, but she is not to touch ours!!
