How much to rent to a friend?

A friend of mine did research into renting points from a broker and then asked me if she could rent mine at that same price since she trusted me more than a stranger. I countered with my cut of rental points from that broker, so she saved a bit more. I've only rented to one person during my ownership, so I'm unsure what I would do if someone else asked. I think most people are bit too flakey for me to risk my points on.

This is generally our approach on the rare times we've had enough points to rent/gift--renting at, or maybe $1-2 below, our cut after going through a broker.

Though we've never stuck to it. For one reason or another every time we've planned to rent it ends up being a gift.

Friends this close, we would either "gift" or at most charge the dues amount per point.

It’s a similar question to if you let friends stay in a vacation home you own somewhere. You could let them stay for free; you could look at how much you pay in taxes and maintenance for the place and charge them a share of that; you could look at what it would cost to stay in a hotel or AirBnb nearby and charge them accordingly; or if you often rent out the place to strangers, you could base what you charge your friends on that (possibly giving them a generous discount).

I have a friend who I've worked with and I have either charged 10/pp or rounded it out lower depending on how many points she needed. My MF are now over 8./pp so It's only reasonable. When I've had to rent on the boards to strangers I charge 15/pp.
I'm seeing 20/pp and wonder who's willing to pay that much and why are people gouging ?...Just my 2cents.
Not sure that $20pp is gouging. I mean, the board sponsor charges $21pp and a popular Canadian DVC rental outlet charges up to $23. If people are willing to pay that, $20pp isn't unreasonable for a stranger.

I guess not if that's your business. I guess I rent when I have points we can't use and it's just to cover expenses, because DVC for us is a luxury and a pleasure.

Are you getting them a studio, one bedroom or 2 bedroom? Although the studio does have the kitchenette, it doesn't have two real beds.

I would probably knock at least 30-40% off rack rate, possibly more. Depending on the time they are going and how long they are going for, Aulani has 20-30% off deals.

Studio or ideally hotel room (aka as cheap as possible). They have 1 kid, so she can probably sleep just on a sofa.

It’s mid summer so they may have a deal.

As a DVC newbie owner, I'm following this thread carefully for future reference. I'm sorry I'm dumb, but I've seen MFs references several times on this thread. What does MF stand for? Thanks so much!
