I have a 4 day park hopper voucher that I redeemed with hotel points. It is for a child (3-9) and I've had it for a year or more and now the "child" is over 10 years old. Does anyone know how or if I can get it upgraded at the park, even though it is a redemption ticket?

Normal policy for non-cash tickets (comps, awards, etc) precludes upgrading the ticket. In your case, you are not upgrading to a higher ticket. You are looking to exchange it for a Guest 10+ ticket of the same length.

Guest Relations should be able to handle this for you but I can't give you a concrete answer as to how they will handle it. It will depend largely on the CM you get when you do it. I see four possible answers they could offer you.

1) Charge you the cost difference between a Guest 3-9 4 day PH and a Guest 10+ 4 day PH.

2) Take it and convert it to a Guest 10+ ticket for no charge.

3) Tell you to go ahead and use the ticket as is

4) Tell you it is a non-cash ticket and cannot be exchanged.

If I'd have to pick the most likely option, I'd go with #2. But you'd better be prepared for any of the four possibilites to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the reply. I will be prepared for any outcome, but I hope you are right about number 2!

This actually happened to me I knew in advance that when I bought an annual pass the following year my son would be 10. I asked at the time Ibought the pass and they told me that it would be okay and that they would honnor it when he was 10. We had no problem. If they do give you a problem I would complain to customer service. There should be no reason that you need to upgrade just because a birthday has occured.

Your situation is different from the OP's situation, so your experience does not apply to her situation.

First of all, your pass was first used when your child was 9. Disney's policy is to exchange a child's pass for an adult's pass at no charge when the child turns 10. This is true for annual passes as well as for unused portions of hopper passes.

The OP's child pass has not yet been used. ** Reread the OP's post and it is not clear to me whether or not the pass was ever partially used. If it was, then this paragraph wouldn't apply. Disney's "exchange policy " applies to passes that have been partially used, not unused passes. Policy is that you buy the appropriate pass for the age your child will be when the pass is first used. (Think about the abuse that could easily happen if that were not the policy).

Also, there are different "rules" for passes that are obtained from rewards points redemptions and comp passes rather than purchased outright (like yours). I can't add anything to what Golden Oldie has already posted on that.

Best wishes -

Annual passes are a different animal.

If a child is 9 when he/she begins using the AP, he/she may continue to use it without any further exchange or upgrade until it expires. Upon renewal or upon purchase of a new AP, the child would then be required to purchase the Guest 10+ AP.

Disney will also exchange unused days from previously used PH and PHP children's tickets at no charge for the same adult admissions. In this case, they do not penalize the child for growing up.

But Disney has every right to and as a matter of policy does in fact charge you the price difference in any unused ticket media bought for a child 3-9 but used for someone 10+. This stops people from loading up on less expensive child's tickets to later use them for children 10 and up.
