Never saw it. Is it crowded? Is there one viewing area? Not sure what to expect.
Have 2 dinner reservations an hour apart. Don't believe in hoarding ADR....need to cancel 1

It's often crowded. The lights cover the equivalent of several city blocks, you just wander around looking. Some people are satisfied after 15 minutes, others take an hour or more.

It is very crowded. The good thing is people are not in a hurry they just stand around and stare. Its amazing. Glad you get to witness it before its gone for good :).

The crowd level will vary by time. I think the later you go in the evening toward closing, the less crowded it becomes. PP is correct about how long, though. We spent about 30 min, but could have stayed longer.

To wander through and get a good look at the lights - you need about 15 minutes. (And make sure you wait long enough to see them "dance.")

To stop and take photos, maybe have your picture taken by a Photopass photographer, really just stop and enjoy the atmosphere - maybe an hour. I think the crowd varies by the day of the week, the weather, and the time - but I've been there when I think it's "pretty crowded" - but as long as you aren't waiting in line for the perfect photo spot with a Photopass photographer - I don't think the crowd level influences your experience much. As long as you are ready for the slow meander walk and realize that some folks will be STOPPED and you need to walk around them, I don't think the crowd influences your time much. It's really about how much time to you need to take them in.

The crowd makes it festive (community celebration), but when it's almost empty - the lights feel a bit more magical - as if they are special for the select few. I've seen them both ways and liked both for different reasons. If you want the lightest crowd - you have to stay until the park is closing out and a bit after.

We stayed last year about an hour. We slowly meandered down the street looking for the hidden Mickey's. We had several Photopass pictures taken and watched them dance.

If you love the festivity and Christmas/holiday lights, allow yourselves as much time as possible! It's such an amazing experience to be fully immersed in the lights, music, and crowds.

They don't shut them off and shoo people out right at closing. Go a half hour before closing. Things will thin out and you get to still see all the lights going.

I second the advice of the PP. We always go at the end of the night and stay after closing. We like to take our time and lots of pics, especially this yr since it may be the end of the lights :( Its fun to find the hidden Mickeys, see the TV with the Christmas special through the window, enjoy the snow and carols, etc. Definitely do not go after 1st Fantasmic gets out(if there are 2 on your nt.), as the crowds tend to flock there. We hit 1st Fantasmic show, and then grab a late CS or snack, do a later FP, and head down towards closing. Enjoy - it is amazing!

Is showing up at 6pm a terrible idea? I was hoping to go to the lights at 6pm to see them turn on and then wander around. Do you think we will make it to a 7pm Fantasmic! (There are two showings that night 7pm and 8:30pm) and then to a 7:45pm Hollywood and Vine dinner?

Not going to work very well. You need to be in line for Fantasmic around 6pm. Fantasmic is 28 minutes long. The crowd pouring out of the stadium is going to make 15 minute to H&V close. Sit in the back so you're out on the front edge of the crowd and don't stop to use the restroom until you are off of Sunset Blvd and you should be fine.

If you're determined to see the lighting get there 15-20 minutes early and work your way up to the exit. Once lit make haste for the Fantasmic line. Wandering around is going to have to wait until later.

Would during the first Fantasmic be a good time to see them?

What time do they come on? When it gets dark? That's like 4:00 now in my neck of the woods (darn daylight savings)!

they turn on the lights at 6 pm. During F! is fine but then people coming out of F! will go see the lights...best time is about 30 minutes before park closing

How long do they "dance"? I don't want to miss any of the show.
The lights dance to the Christmas carols with snow falling about every 15 min., so you will not miss it. They rotate through music, so you will probably see a few different versions while you walk around. Take your time - we never want to leave!:santa:

We are going next Monday. We have Fantasmic dinner package (early - like by 4:00). So the lights turn on at 6, Fantasmic at 7 and the park closes at 8. Should we plan going from 6-6:30, or go through the Fantasmic crowd after around 7:30?

Soon they will be dead lights in the Mickey morgue along with the Lights of Winter, while guests grieve. Hard not to be angry about this decision.

When we went, we were done after about 2 christmas carols. We really enjoy Christmas lights, but it still bored us after about 15-20 minutes. I'm not sure how I missed that there was a photopass photographer. I usually try to catch all of those. That would have made it longer for us.

If you live in an area that has a big synchronized display, I think you will be less amazed. It is nice and festive, but we would never make a special trip just for the Osbourne lights. We can get a similar experience near where we live.

I'd go after Fantasmic so that you're not having to watch the clock to make sure you get to Fantasmic on time.

I am having the same kind of issue planning my HS evening. We are only doing a weekend trip, so only 1 night in the studios. We have a Minnie's Diner reservation at 6:15. My plan was to go see the lights after this. The park closes as 8. My question is do people think we have time to make it to the only Fantasmic show at 8:30. It isn't a must do for me but my friend hasn't seen it, and I would love for her to get to see it. The lights are more important though!
