How Much Time Passed Before You Married...

Dated for 2 years and were engaged for 2 more...We have been together 10 years but married for 6.


We still celebrate our anniversary of our first date more than our wedding anniv. I think it's more important how long we have been together...

We're the same way! We had our first date on April 1, 2000 and I knew right then he was the guy I'd marry. Of course, we'd known each other for 7 months before our first date as friends. We celebrate our anniversary as April 1st, because it's easier to remember than our wedding date, which is June 16, 2006. So we were together 6 years before we got married and will be celbrating 9 years together this April.

We dated for four years, and were engaged for a year after that before getting married. We knew we were getting married after our first date, but decided we should wait until we had set ourselves up for our careers. I wanted to go back and finish my degree, and my husband wanted to go to law school. We went to schools in different states, and got married right after he finished his LLM degree. We've been married 12 years now, and we actually celebrate our anniversary twice--on the day of our first date, and the day we chose to get married on.

I met DH as a freshman in college, we started dating a year and a half later, got engaged 2.5 years after that and were married a little less than two years after our engagement. So that's about 6 years from start to finish, with only about 4.5 years of a pre-marriage relationship. We've been married for five years now.

Started dated DH in 1981, can't remember what year we got engaged in (that's pretty bad), and got married in 1989. We started dating young (I was 15) so that's why it took us so long. We'll be married 20 years this May

Here is my historical timeline with my husband:

January 1979 - started dating (I was 18, he was 21)

April 1979 - I dismissed all his competitors and decided to see him exclusively

December 1980 - we got engaged (I was 20, he was 23)

October 1983 - we finally tied the knot (I was two weeks short of 23, he was 25)

So, from dating to married took almost 5 years. We've been married for 25 years.

I've known DH since I was 15 and he was 13. We couldn't stand each other. LOL Then we got together in Feb 1994, engaged in Aug 1994, married April 1996. He was in the Navy from Aug 1993- Aug 1995- when he got out, we moved in together and planned our wedding(we had already started planning before he got out). We have been married 13 years this year.

I always laugh when someone gets engaged and then plans a wedding for six months later and says, "It's such a loooong wait!" I usually remain quiet
