How much time do you REALLY spend in your hotel room?

I think after years of going to WDW, the resort experience is even more important to me than the parks. I have so many memories of my kids at different ages and stages of their lives at different WDW resorts. There's a lot of nostalgia and magic associated with the resorts for me.

I try to spend every waking minute outside when I go to WDW - and a lot of that time is at the resort. My kids and husband, OTOH, like that mid-afternoon lazing around an air-conditioned room watching cartoons. So, I'd say the room and resort are pretty important factors - they're just not a place to sleep for us.

I have yet to stay at a Deluxe hotel. I keep saying "I will stay there next time." But everytime it's time for me to book the next trip, I just end up booking the Moderate or Value. I just can't justify paying that much money knowing that my intention to be at WDW is to enjoy all 4 themed parks.

I guess if money is no object, then I guess my view would be different. I would even stay at GF concierge, the best view they got and the best room they have and do the parks all day and don't come back til late at night, it wouldn't make any difference.

We find that when we go to DW in the summer when the hours are longer and there are E-Nights, we stay in a moderate since we just sleep, shower and store our stuff there. When we go during off season, we will sometimes stay at a deluxe.

Quite honestly, we still don't spend much time in the room even though we have gone a least once a year for the past 14 years. We first started going, we stayed at CBR, the "values" didn't exist then. The last few trips we have stayed at the Swan, BWI and Y & B. For us, it is really about the location. Of those three I prefer the Swan, (love those beds! and the Starbucks coffee.) Weather permitting we do enjoy some time at the pool, but we really are there for the park experience.

We are in our room very little on our trips we head out after breakfast and do not return till after 8 or 9 PM when going to the parks. On our 2 week trips we are in the room for a total of what would ammount to about 2 full days so not much time at all. We are DVC members and on weekends stay at the Values we love the All Star resorts so much that it wouldn't be a complete trip without a couple days at one of them. Unless you are a DVC member save your money and stay at All Stars or at POP Century well worth the money and you are very rarely in the room anyhow.

Depends on your personal preference.

I spend very little time in my hotel. I'd rather spend less on the room and more in the parks, on nice meals etc.

We spend very little time in the room. We do go swimming frequently though. I am happy at moderates. I would have to save an extra year to stay at a deluxe. I'd rather go more frequently.

I'am no expert on WDW yet but we went and only slept and ate breakfast in our hotel room. Now we went in off season, so the hours were not long at the parks. With 3 kids under 7, we never got back to the hotel till after 9:00, showers, watch a little t.v., maybe swim and the kids were out with us for the count. I feel the same with Esmeraldax I would rather spend more time and money on Character Breakfasts and the park then the resort.

Just another opinion:sunny: :sunny:

Truly it depends on my length of stay. When I've gone in the past for shorter stays then I usually hit the parks commando and would be in my room very little. My last few trips have been for 6 to 10 days each and I find that I go commando for the first 3 to 4 days and then begin to relax and spend more time in room and around the resort with less hours in the park. Last few days of trip means I tend to sleep in a bit more, rent bikes, do laundry and swim, swim and look there's a hot tub over there. I am beginning to believe that since I am spending more money to stay at a moderate, I might as well enjoy what I'm paying for.

We spend time in our room sleeping - evenings and sometimes afternoons. We don't use the pools anymore (kids are on their own). It just didn't make sense to us to spend the extra $ but we know everyone has a different priority - some people think the prices we pay to hit a little white ball into a fairly small hole doesn't make sense either.

We do go "touring" at other resorts. Sometimes relaxing with a cup of coffee in those wonderful lobbys.

Our last stay was last December for 9 nites at ASMusic.

We have stayed at the value resorts (All Stars) the last 4 times. Prior to that we stayed at the Poly, CBR 3 times, Treehouse Villas 2 times, Vacation Villas once, Disney Inn (Shades of Green) once, Fort Wilderness trailers twice,
the Dolphin once and off site at some condos a couple of times.

Unless we would win a really big lottery I don't see us staying at anything but a value resort in the future..... (but I have been wrong in the past)

Like yecats said, it really depends on the length of stay for me. When my son & I go for a short hop, it doesn't matter so much where we lay our heads. When we go on a longer, family trip, I know we will spend more time at the resort. (DH is NOT a WDW Commando) Then the resort experience itself is part of the Magic. On those trips, we will spend time in the room, time at the pool, time in the restaurants, walking the grounds, sitting on the balcony & people watching.

At this point in our WDW vacationing, we will always stay at at least a moderate. We have done value & enjoyed our trip, but the room was too small & noisy even for the limited amount of time we were in it. Now, if staying at a value was the only way we could go onsite, we would do it.

We also choose a deluxe for the location, rather than the room size, or theming. The convenience of being able to say, walk into Epcot has us spening more time at the parks than if we stayed at a moderate.

We basically sleep, shower and take a midday break in our room. If we had the extra $$ to go deluxe, we would like to try a few of the resorts. BUt for us, having extra $$ for dining, souvenirs and activities is more important for us. We prefer the moderates and feel they are a happy medium between splurgin on the resort and skimping. We didn't care for the all stars-we felt it was too much like a motel. The themed mods are our favorite and are in our budget. If a deluxe is in your budget-go for it! :)

I tend to spend more time in my room when I am at one of the deluxes. I really enjoy sitting out on the balconies, esp. early in the morning and late at night.

For quick trips (1 or 2 nights) I sometimes stay at a moderate as I become a theme park commando trying to see everything quickly. When staying at a moderate I also don't spend as much time in my room because of the lack of balcony. The exterior corridor makes me want to keep the curtains shut for privacy. The interior corridors at the deluxes afford more privacy.
