We have never done a character meal before so I am wondering how much time to allow for a character breakfast?

More specifically we are looking at a Minnie and Friends reservation for 8 people (but only one child) at 8:10 am on a day the park opens at 9:00 am.

The other option is Surf’s Up at the PPH at 7:00 am with a 9:00 am park opening.

Thanks!

I like to allow 90 minutes. Mainly for character interaction.

Same here about 90 minutes. It sometimes depends on what character meal we are doing. For Minnies we like to do our reservations at around 9 am when we have EMH at 7am. That way we can do some rides and then have breakfast. But we also want to enjoy our day at the park so we don't linger. When we have dinner at goofy I feel like we are there forever. Mostly because it is usually the last thing we do in the day and we are not in a hurry.

If you're doing minnie and friends you'll want 90 mins because it has more characters.

I did surfs up at 7am and they sat our group at the back by the kitchen where the characters came out. 40 mins in we had seen all the characters more than once and were still able to use our magic morning

I would also allow about 90 minutes to give yourself the best chance of seeing as many of the characters as possible. I also went to Surf's Up and it took about 90 minutes to see the characters as they rotated through the rooms (we were seated in the front room, the furthest from the kitchen/buffet area).

We have always gone between 9:45 and 10:15 and it is always thinning out then so we stay a long time since no one is waiting for a table. I have heard from others that you only need an hour max but really you could be done and happy (having seen all the characters) within 45 minutes--I'm only speaking of Breakfast with Minnie btw.
