Well me and my Dbf dont know how much to take for 2 weeks we are planning on taking £3000 as we dont want to worry about money is it too much? TBH wish i spent the extra money on Virgin flights lol after all the horror stories i read about Thomas Cook!!

But what is the average everyone takes?

Do you spend it all?

Thanks everyone x

It varies between how many/children/meals so on everyone is different.
We take $4000 + Credit cards for emergencies so on,we go for 3 weeks,2 ad and 2 ch. However I have purchased the Kids eat free cards at certain places.
All tickets have also been purchased beforehand so the money is purely for us/food etc.

We take credit card, a lot easier but for 2 weeks we will spend approx $1,400 (£700) we always average $100/day for 3 adults. that includes meals, snacks, and things we buy(none of us like shopping so only bits).
We usually eat lunch in parks that costs approx $30 and eve meal offsite, varies anything from $17 at CiCi's to $50 at Texas Roadhouse. Food is for nothing over there.
This year we are going 3 times totalling 7 weeks. We would have change out of £3,000 for all year.
Everyone is different, if you like expensive meals, drink alcohol and shop then you can go thru £3,000 in 2 week. Glad we are cheap, none drinkers none shoppers:rotfl2:

I budget for $150 a day for the two of us for food and general buying in the parks or supermarkets, we came home in October with $700 so in fact averaged only $100 a day! Plus we each spent about £700 or so on credit card purchases and another £400 or so on the joint credit card so in all about £2500 was spent and we did get our monies worth :D

Claire ;)

I agree with Claire plus allow $60 for the first and last days so you can grab some food on your travels:thumbsup2 We too came back with some dollars left over which we converted back and gave to DS for Christmas :goodvibes

Lol I include $150 for the first day as you need to stock up on essentials when you arrive, or very soon after and $150 on the last day for last mnute shopping!!

Hey Natasha, we are flying TC as well, what horror stories have you heard?!

We dont spend a great deal on our trips either, neither of us are big shoppers.

I usually budget for around $150 a day for food, drink and snacks around the park. I include $150 for the first day too as i tend to go shopping and stock up on bits and bobs for the hotel room.

I just look up reviews for them on google and most are bad reviews how it is cramped and that the staff are not nice and so on and on!

But they are changing the plane from 1st May with a bigger seat pitch which is great cos i need room lol!! xx

So all in all taking £3000 is ok and even if we dont spend it we can exchange when we get back woooo!! But knowing me if its there i will spend it lol!!

hehe! x

If you can get a Nationwide credit card and leave most money at home in your bank account for three reasons 1) CC is much safer way of carrying money 2) Better exchange rate than changing to cash or TC's and 3) Don't have to worry about losing money when changing back to £'s as exchange rate is often alot worse for changing back.

Hi Claire i dont think i would be able to do that as i have a bad credit rating from when i was with my ex bf ( Long Story lol )
Ive seen people sell the dollars they havent used on ebay do you think thats a good idea? x

Rather than credit card what about Nationwide flex account? its just a current account but you can use the card abroad free but no credit involved. As Claire said your way is not the best especially if your bringing a lot back to change, you lose big time swapping back.
Would not use Ebay personally but thats your choice.

Last year, we took £3000 for 5 of us(2 adults, 3 children) for 3 weeks and we had money left when we came home. We all love shopping and bought loads, (needed to buy 2 extra suitcases to come home), ate where and what we wanted and basically didn't give money a second thought the whole time we were there.

£3000 between the 2 of you will be loads. :)

We also seem to average about $100 to $150 a day (me and DW). Never change whats left, just put it away and forget about it till next time. Lose too much, we think of it as savings

That sounds like a good idea i'll put it to my Dbf.

Thank you x

We spend on average about $3000 per fortnight for DH and I, that's for food and spending, we don't buy much expensive stuff though. Our only big spend really is usually under $250 and that's usually a bit of artwork/souvenir of our trip. The rest we tend to donate to Target, Walmart and the Florida Mall!
