How much should we tip mousekeeping?

We are staying at the Pop (not sure that matters!) for five days. There is just my DH and I. How much should we leave at the end of the stay? TIA!

We generally leave $5 a day and there are 3 of us. The reason we tip daily is that I've read here on the DIS that some days you get different mousekeepers than on other days. Have fun!

We usually tip $5 a day also. We have been blessed with always having the same maid every trip, and she takes wonderful care of us. Normally we find out what days off she has during our stay, so we are sure to leave her an extra $10 on the last day we will have her.

We do $5 per day for the two of us also. We leave it every day, not at the endof the stay, since the housekeepers are not the same each day.

We leave $2 per day if we have turndown service.

I'd go with zero. Disney doesn't consider housekeeping a "tipped" position. Unlike waiters, bellhops,valets etc housekeepers are paid enough so tips aren't expected. I don't see a reason to tip a Disney housekeeper when I don't tip the CM who has a similar job cleaning restrooms in theme parks.

Tip if you leave a big mess. Tip if you ask for something extra. Tip if you're in the mood.

You are under no obligation to tip mousekeepers at all. Sure a lot of folks do, and as you rightly say it's not breaking the bank to do so. But if you don't want to then you are doing nothing wrong.

As for us, we tip $5/day each day. In December we'll be in a 2 BR villa with 3 bathrooms, 4 adults and 2 toddlers with crumbs, sticky stuff, dirty diapers and I plan to tip $10/day.

Oh boy...don't tell others what they should or shouldn't do. If you feel it appropriate, then do it. This kind a jab just makes people mad and that much more determined not to do it.

Respectfully you should do your homework - housekeeping at Disney is not a tipped position and it should not be suggested that it is.

If people tip mousekeeping why don't they tip reception, quick service staff or janitors (imagine dealing with the toilets in the parks - that must be a gruesome job) etc?

I leave $1 per day, per person in the room, daily. I realize that it's not a tipped position, but most of the housekeepers who have taken care of our rooms over the years are really nice people and I feel that they deserve that little bit extra for doing a not so fun job. Just remember that a tip doesn't guarantee towel animals, sometimes we've gotten them, sometimes not.

$1 pp/day, Yep, not a tipped position, but I also make requests at times from them that I expect to be followed and as a result I think I should give them a bit extra.

My last 2 trip I tried to tip $2 a day but they never took it. Don't know if its beacause my room is always neat as a pin or what but sometimes they don't even take it.

Nope....he was 100% correct. Disney will tell you that housekeepers are not to be tipped...they are pretty well paid. Disney housekeepers make about $13 an hour. Not a fortune but that's about what my 34 y/o dd makes working in a daycare/preschool.
I have asked at the front desk, at various resorts, to see what the 'official' policy is. At each resort I was told that housekeepers aren't supposed to be tipped and if they are, they aren't supposed to accept the tips!

Now, with that in mind, do I tip? Sometimes. We are very tidy people, in fact I actually make the beds before leaving for the day!! I tend to stay mostly at DVC resorts now...so don't get regular housekeeping.

It's pretty safe to assume that if you leave a tip, and housekeeping doesn't take it, they are adhering to Disney policy.

Who has maid service come in every day to warrant these daily tips? Just saying unless you are requesting daily maid service. At OKW, in my experiences, there are set days that they will come and tidy things up (unless you require more frequent maid service I guess) so for a 5 day trip you will usually be able to see that you get service one day for a few minutes and that is just refreshing towels (unless you want to conserve water and leave the towels as instructed), pulling blankets up on beds (which we do anyway) and take the small amount of trash out.

I do a $2/day in one of the Thank you Mousekeeping envelopes. I think on our last trip it wasn't taken two of the days. I know it's not much, but I just like doing it because the kids love the extra touches like towel animals and all the stuffed animal arranging that gets done. They love coming back to see what is different each day. I appreciate that 'extra mile' sort of thing!

If you tip every day, you are actually tipping before the room is cleaned. What if the room is not satisfactory, then the housekeeper gets the tip for not doing the work they were hired to do. I understand that you could get a different housekeeper everyday, so looks like you are taking a chance on providing a tip. I agree with the Mod, no tip is required or expected.

I'm not sure I understand the difference in not tipping mousekeeping (which I plan on doing) and not tipping the waiters after a meal. Those who tip mousekeepers, do you also tip the waiters and those who don't, do you not tip after a meal? Hopefully this doesnt open a can of worms that doesnt need to be opened.
