How much room for an airbed?

We have a cat 7 room for 3 people. It only sleeps 3. My kids are going to fight about who sleeps where and I would like to have the bed to myself. I bought a twin size air mattress and wonder if it would fit ok but would a queen size fit too. The twin with rechargable pump is $18 at target and queen size is $19. For a $1 more the queen seems a better deal. If the queen will fit I will return the twin and buy that one. We are also staying at the poly and OKW and would need the same set up. I need to keep the weight in mind too for the suitcases so I need to keep it light. Has anyone else bought an air mattress and how did it go?

Keep in mind that the "queen" bed in the room can be configured into two twins - so a cabin that sleeps 3 really can sleep them each on their own bed.

I can imagine maybe getting a twin air matress on the floor next to the third bed. I can't imagine a queen fitting. The cabins are large compared to other cruise lines - but they aren't that large

We have ALWAYS taken twin size air matresses on our cruises. It fit fine every time. It is a bit smaller than a twin bed when you first blow it up (not as wide usually) but quickly expands each night. We have had no problem, BUT - we have only gone on Holland America Line which is supposed to have larger than normal staterooms, and have only had verandah and deluxe verandah staterooms before . If it does fit, you can just lean it up against the wall in the morning so you have room to walk. I would imagine it would fit fine. Definately NOT the queen though. Queen airbeds are huge. As for the weight, I think it is definately worth it. My twin airbed doesn't actually weigh much though so it should be okay! Have fun!!!

I can't imagine wanting to sleep on air mattress when you spend so much money on a cruise vacation....on DCL, as mentioned above, the big bed splits into two twins (really a bit narrower than a true twin) but is very comfortable. If it is just you and your 2 kids you can each have a bed ( the two twins and the convertible sofa...which is very comfortable....not at all like a pull sofa that you would think of in a home.

Here is a pic of the queen split into two twins....you can see they just move the night table in between the beds.

I hope you bought an aero bed... The others are a pain to inflate and deflate... I LOVE my aerobeds... (just don't step on them while inflated... my brother did that a couple of months ago and popped the valve... I have to order a new one from Aero...)

Short ans: yes, as noted the big bed can be set up as two twins...that plus the couch convert gives you 3

Longer ans: The first time we cruised, we were 4 and when the tix arrived the cabin we got said it only slept 3.....

So I called and was told: All the cabins of this type have the pull down bunk, but we don't show that in the book because then we don't have enough life boats.....

Now, after some investigation what I learned was that this was an error in semantics..... Yes, all the cabins of the classes concerned have a drop down bunk....BUT they watch how many people they book.....so by my understanding your cabin will have the bunk and if the kids want to use it (mine always did - we sailed as single dad and 2 kids 4 times) you can keep the big bed...... just tell the room attendant how you'd like the room set up!

If your room does not have the bunk please let me know as I'm not 100% sure I've gotten the straight scoop...but my '3 person' room had the fourth bed/drop down bunk (which my kids like)......no problem-o

And btw - SOLAS regulations call for lifeboat capacity in excess of 100% pass' capacity so what we really have here is a numbers game of what Disney has decided and registered as a 'full load' vice the actual number of available beds.... or in other words they don't plan to fill every kid bed cuz of their projections in other places on the ship like the clubs..... that's my guess anyway.

I have read somewhere that there are rooms that only sleep 3- no top bunk. I would prefer a room with the bunkbed but I lucked out getting the room we did with the open verandah for a cat 7 price. I would think it would be better for all the rooms to have that feature as a backup. I know we can split the bed but I have not slept in a twin bed since I was 15 and I would probably fall off it a few times! I am not exactly skinny. I am pretty sure an air mattress will fit at the hotels but the kids will still fight for who will get the bigger bed. It is a regular air mattress from target with a rechargable air pump. It was $18 on sale. I can't see spending $100 for an aerobed. We had an eddie bauer extra tall double air bed that I spent about $60 on and ended up exchanging 3 of them with leaks before I gave up on them.

Not true, there are many staterooms (CAT 12 through 6) that are setup for 3 persons only ... they do not have the pull down bunk from the ceiling.

We have 3 persons in our family and on two previous cruises, one in a CAT 11 and one in a CAT 6, we did not have the pull down from the ceiling ... no, you can not ask the room attendant to simply pull it down ... it is not there to pull down.

I am by no means skinny and I spent 2 weeks in the split bed on our Panama Canal cruise...I cruised with 2 friends and we each had a bed...it was great and very comfortable and cozy....I took the bed that was closest to the wall and just loved it!!! Never once felt like I would fall out of the twin and I sleep on a king sized bed at home!!

This is true. This is why a family of 4 can not book a Cat. 7. There is no pull down bed. If you read the room description, this is why they say for some categories, "sleeps 3 some sleep 4". When I had my cousin book, she booked for her and her son, knowing another friend will be booking her and her son later in the same room, we had to call and tell Disney, so they would change her room to a 4 person room with the pull down. If you book 3, they can give you a non pull down bed room. If you want the extra bed, you have to request it. We have to do this too when we have 2 parents and four kids in connecting rooms. I had my relative request a four sleeper, because we were going to do the kids in one room and parents in the other. (something we all do - shhhhhh!!!!).
I do not think you will need an air bed. I think it will just get in the way and is more to pack. A twin would fit, but would be tight. A queen or full, will not fit. Just think, we can not find room to put our luggage, not to mention an airbed. The kids would be fine with the beds you have. My girlfriend last cruise slept on the sofa bed and she is well over 225 lbs and slept comfortable. IMO

I'm rather Pooh-sized, and I can sleep on the twin. My advice would be to NOT drag any more stuff than you absolutely have to, and just split the Queen into twins.
We took an air mattress (like you're describing, not an expensive one) for my son to sleep on, and we had a CAT 3....and it still took up way too much space! Even though we stood it up during the day.

We've stayed in one of the reclassified cat 7 cabins (congrats on snagging it BTW ) and you will NOT have the pull down bunk.

I'm with the others, I'd say no to the queen size for sure. Personally I wouldn't even want to deal with a twin size, but it would probably fit. Of course there will be no getting to the balcony without walking all over the poor soul who is camped out on the air mattress, since that's the only place I can really visualize it working at all.

I must be missing something. I can not imagine taking an air mattress with me since the ship is set up so that everyone can have their own bed. Yes, it's a twin bed, but unless you bring your bed frame, you'll be putting your air mattress on top of a twin mattress and would have nothing to support the overhanging part of the air mattress. I can't speak for category 1,2,3,or 4, but even though Disney has the biggest cabins in the industry, there just isn't enough floor space for a mattress.
Besides, cruise ships have the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on (8 cruises on 6 different lines)

Here is a pic of the queen split into two twins....you can see they just move the night table in between the beds.

We moved the second bedside table to the center so both beds were against the walls and there was more space in the middle to move around. The only problem was that my arm hit the light switch and blinded us once, but i only did it ONCE!
