do they really just impact one day or can they impact several days?

Fay impacted Tuesday through Friday.

It totally depends on the path of the storm.

We were at WDW in 2005 for Hurricane Wilma. We only got the very outer edges of the storm (strong winds and rain, but nowhere near hurricane-strength in Orlando). It affected us for less than 24 hours. The good news was, the parks were only closed for 1/2 day. Plus, the storm seemed to clear out the heat and humidity for us! It was hot (90+) and humid the day before the storm, but afterward, just warm and pleasant (upper 70s and virtually no humidity!).

But every storm is different.

I went through the absolute worst of Andrew in Miami in 1992.It basically lasted from 3:30 am to 6:30 am but it came with 155 mph winds and 200 mph gusts,3 hours and it basically destroyed EVERYTHING,2 story houses became 1 story, roofs on houses were ripped off, trees down everywhere, pharmacy signs ripped from the storefront and ended up 2 miles away, all in 3 hours,it flooded somewhat but not as bad as I've seen in other storms that stay longer. So you could have storms that come really quick and some that stay for a day or two in the general area that could bring more rain,if you add winds of over 100 mph to a slow moving storm it could do a lot of damage as well.If a storm like Andrew would have "stuck around" for any longer I wouldn't be here writing this.
