Wow!!! My dog wants to go there!! Even a filled up Kong.. her favorite toy of all time. That's the kind of place I'd like my dog to stay, not being caged up alone all day and night like you get around here.

I wanted to mention I did find someone to take my Lilly Belle. She's going to be cared for by a high school girl and her mom. Lily really likes them, and I feel really good leaving her with them. I hope they don't change their mind before the end of October.

My husband and I were just talking about how we have to plan our big vacations around when my parents can watch our dogs because it is just too expensive to board them for more than a night or two.

We have a wonderful kennel here, but it is $39 per dog and we have two, so double that! This includes play time, but nothing else extra.

My parents live two hours away, but it is still cheaper (yet very inconvenient) to drive them to my parents house rather than pay that price for a week.

I pay my friend or my daughter who is a stay at home mom and needs the cash- $50 per day for my 2 labs. They are not used to being crated so not sure how they would do all day.

We board at our vet and its $22 per night.

We pay $28 a day for our Black Lab. They have a large kennel and run. The place also has a pool for her to swim, AC and they have play time twice a day. It's a great place.

This is the first time we haven't used them. My Brother and sister in law took her. They recently lost their lab and their other dog was lonely. They were great and loved her. They told us to never use a kennel again. They will happily have her. This saved us over $300.00. :cheer2:

We are so happy to have someone watch out dog for us. I know she being loved and well cared for. A home is the best option whenever possible. Try asking you vet if they know anyone that takes pets. I know our vet has an assistant that does it.

If you don't mind me asking where do you take you Black Lab. We are in CT also and starting to think about boarding our cocker when we go away in April. If you feel more comfortable you can feel free to PM me.

Thanks!

We take our 2 dogs to a doggy day care. They get their own room but during the day have free roam of the facility plus access to outside area. Lights out at 9:30 and then they are let out at 6:30 a.m.. It also has webcam so we can watch them. The owner stays there with the dogs. I looked at kennels but they were so depressing. Our dogs are rescue dogs and I just felt guilty keeping them in a crate all day (and they wouldn't be together). Plus we had to pay extra for "play time" and extra walks. We pay $54 for both of them per night at the daycare. For our Disney trip it's going to be expensive but the owner is giving us a discount plus will let us pick them up by midnight when we get home (our plan lands at 10 p.m). He normally charges another night if you don't pick them up by 10 p.m. We've used the place twice and so far so good.

Holy crap!!! The fee to board our beagle just went from $8 to $10. If he stays 7 days or longer he gets a free groom. I also get his nails clipped for $10. There is a fancy place in town where the dogs have beds and tvs and private runs. That place is $20 a day and we won't be going there anytime soon!

We have a local kennel just minutes from our home. It's out in the country, very clean and just the nicest people. We know our doggies are taken good care of and we pay 19.00 per night for each kennel/run that we need. We've never needed more than one run for our 3 little dogs (Yorkie, Pomeranian and Dachshund) but this year we have a little ChiWeenie (Chihuahua Dachshund mix) that we're fostering and can NOT find a home.....so we're looking at having to board him as well and that'll add another 190.00 for 10 days of his run/kennel!!!! We also have a special food we feed them all and I think she charges us 2.00 a day to do that, although I think they only charge us once per kennel and not per dog since they all eat the same food.

Oh and if you have more than one pet per run/kennel it's 14.00 for each additional dog....so there is a bit of a discount ;)

I found a wonderful kennel outside Denver....I pay $20/night for my dachshund and she can be outside all day (depending on weather) and gets lots of love and gets to play with other dogs her size. I can drop her off anytime of day and still only pay the $20. They will also pick up/drop off in the city for $15.

The kennel raises champion Afghan hounds and they love dogs.

Have you tried your local humane society ?

We met a retired school teacher who now pet sits in her home. She charges $10 a night and we tip also. She is very active at our local shelter and humane society.

We are so fortunate to have found her. Our dog always comes back so happy from her house. He jumps in her car and loves to go with her.

I hope you find someone soon.

$28 per night at his groomer's and he spends pretty much the entire day running outside in a huge fenced yard with other dogs. He comes home happy and groomed (grooming extra).

Another resource for boarding is your breeder. If you purchased your dog or puppy from a reputable breeder, they often will board their "own" dogs at a reasonable fee. It doesn't hurt to ask.

We pay 36 a night. This includes a private suite (looks like a shower stall to me), tv that my dog won't watch, food, a bath if she's staying 3 days or more and all day play with the day care dogs. They even have an inside play room for when the weather is bad. Also, they will do one on one playtime if my dog is feeling anti-social.

We love this kennel because you can tell they really love the animals they care for. And they were more than happy to give us a tour when we showed up without an appointment when we were looking for kennels. That told me that everything is always clean, the attendant outside pays attention (she didn't know we were watching), and they don't force dogs that are uncomfortable to go out if they don't want to.

Don't get me wrong, I love our GSD, but that is crazy. DD12 wants to be a dog trainer when she gets older as well as have her own doggy day care, but I think this "resort" would make her laugh. The guy I take our dog to, also trains dogs and I know he would just pee his pants laughing if someone he make his place into a "resort":rotfl2:

For our last Disney trip in May, I paid $700 ($70 x 10 days) for our doggie care. We have 4 dogs and each are on medication and special food. Two are senior and actually are spoon fed twice a day. But we are lucky, our person is a vet tech (at the vet we use) and comes by morning and early evening to follow the special instructions for food, etc. She washes the dog bedding as needed, picks up mail, etc.
She will take one with her to the vet during the day if they need special treatment or a bath. She plays with them and I feel so secure having her; she has even taken one home with her over the weekend to specially care for him. They really know she cares!

Here is one of many in our area. I'm sure they do quite well. Vets usually charge around $40 a night in my area. Lucky for me, I have a friend who takes my dog.

Dang, aqua massage, I want to stay there myself. but my GSD would just actually love if someone took a water hose and sprayed it up in the air.

I actually rescind my statement about DD12, I told her about the first quoute and I think I will show her your link, she said that is neat, so maybe one day she will open her own posh dog and cat resort. As long as we have animals, people are willing to pay for boarding, etc, so I don't see that as a bad career choice, plus she loves animals. we have our GSD, a cat( who we got from a no kill rescue with FIV as well as him being mostly an all black cat-you'd be surprised how people are still supersticous, and we have 2 dumbo rats, who are actually really smart, so she love all types of animals.

I'm sure they do quite well as well because some people are just over the top and PSA:for goodness sakes, get rid of the dog purses, dogs are not an accessory:confused3

the vets around me vary in price, but even though i trust our vet, I trust the guy i take our pup to more, since I've known him longer. I think most importantly that you really "trust" who is taking care of your pets.

Funny thing is I don't have a dog, I heard about this "resort" from a friend!
Edit: thebarkwoodinn.com in MA

One of our local vets does boarding. The dogs have an indoor/outdoor run with gravel; we have out GSD and our Border Collie put together in one run, because the Border Collie doesn't do so well byself, so they charge us $15 a day for the one run plus a small surcharge for the two dogs; this includes a flea dip when they first show up and a flea dip, bath and grooming when they leave. (Our dogs don't have fleas, but apparently other dogs DO show up with 'em, so the vet has made it a requirement for all dogs.) We also usually wind up with a few extra charges; we're boarding them for 9 days this time; my best guess is that it will be about $200. We've got a $100 credit at this vet for participating in a study with the GSD which is a nice little bonus.

OP, I'd look into driving as far as necessary; when we lived in MA we used a vet 3 towns over who had an excellent boarding program. It was totally worth the time it took us to drive there and back again to know our dogs were treated right.
