How much money do you spend a year on vacations?

I apparently like to keep my Disney vacations to around $2500 total, including spending money, transportation, etc., because that's what we spent in October 2012 for four of us (we drove) and we are spending roughly the same this September but for only 3 of us (we are flying). That's pretty much all I want to spend on Disney trips. If I was spending much more than that, we would be traveling somewhere out of the country.

We also have two other family trips planned in the next ten months. We are going to Destin, Florida in March for a week and then to a beach in our own state in June. That is one more trip than we usually do in that time span but a friend of my husband gave us an awesome deal on his beachfront home in Destin and my in laws are giving us a week in June at their timeshare. Neither of these trips will cost a whole lot.

Our vacation budget is largely dependent upon upon what else is going on in our lives. We've taken really expensive vacations and we've also taken ones that were significantly less. When our oldest daughter was heavily involved in a competitive sport, we took less expensive vacations because we were traveling around the country for competitions. Same daughter is now in college, which we pay for, so I am focused on finding deals which usually means vacations closer to home, at least until she graduates.

We bought a year round cabin on a lake, we enjoy it so much. Its like a vacation to us to get away, relax and have fun... we spend almost every weekend there in the summer & at least 1 weekend a month in the winter months. Average monthly cost is about 1,000 including gas, groceries, upkeep ect.
We also go to Disney every year. Stay at different resorts. This year we're staying at the GF, Club level, theme park view room. I'm so excited!
We also go on about 2 smaller mini vacations every summer with the kids, usually each is about 4 days.
So, I'm estimating we spend about 20,000 - 25,000 a year.
My DH has a very well paying job, I work part time in nursing & earn a nice supplemental amount of income too.
We own our home, and vehicles, have a nice 401k and retirement fund, have money in the bank, & don't believe in using credit cards any other way other than, if used paying off entire amount when the bill comes.

It depends. Anywhere from $3000 - $6000. This year we are on the high end because we did a week at the OBX with all 5 of our kids, then we went to Myrtle beach with 3 of them. And we will be going to Disney with the 2 little ones. Our vacations/get aways are necessary to my sanity, lol.
we use our tax refund to offset the costs and get "deals" whenever possible.

As far as your situation goes, have you really looked into the practicality of going to Myrtle Beach without a car? It has been years since I was there but I don't remember that being a place that is particularly easy to get around without wheels.

.

Ditto the OP!!! MB is definitely NOT a place to go without ready transportation!

Also; we did a cross country trip last summer (WV to TX) and split it up over time, took us 3 days to get there and we stopped at various "fun" places along the way to save our sanity as well as the kids. Not to mention the MIL and dd's then bf that we had with us. Lol.

I know it's an added cost but I'd def. suggest a hotel in the middle of the 11 hour trip.

We have 13 hours to Disney and DO stop at a halfway point on our way to give us and the kids a breather/ good nights rest before continuing.

I would say we average $10k yr for vaca. some years we spend $3k other years we spend $30k. We are taking our 2nd trip to WDW this year and the two trips combined will total $7k.

As far as the whole dance competition and all, all i keep thinking of is the show, toddlers & tiaras. for our family, not a chance i would have the schedule of our 7 yr. old (or even our 12 yr. old) turning our family plans upside down.

if it were some national championship final that the dance team worked all season to get to, maybe. Otherwise i'd just put things into perspective and rest easy at night knowing that i'm not denying the next Ginger Rogers or Fred Astaire by missing a competition.
