How much luggage do you take?

Just curious. If it is all 4 of us we normally pack 3-4 suitcases. Try to take the ones that will fit in on another for space saving.

Well, you didn't say what cruise you were doing....WDW first or not?

For 2 of us on a 7 day, we usually take 3 suitcases total. I pack one for each of us and a "cruise only" bag of our dress clothes and other things that we won't need till we are on the ship.

Hints for storing luggage--after the safety drill, place the life vests under the bed. This frees up a large closet shelf that will hold suitcases. Most cases will slide under the bed (you might have to lift the bed a little to get past the lower railing.

The airlines generally allow 2 bags plus a carry on. Your biggest problem will be what to do with all the clothes, etc. in the cabin. We store some of it in the suitcases (snorkel equipment, etc.) Also, the shoe holder on the bathroom door is a great trick for organizing everything. If you have the split bathroom (cat 10 or better), you'll want 2 of these!!! We use them for toiletries, camera, kids KTTW cards, autograph books, sunscreen, etc. SOmeday, we might even use them for shoes!

Just curious how much everyone takes. It does not matter the length of the cruise. Just being curious. But I guess it would be nice if everyone will state how long their cruise is or was.

For our family of 4, 7 night, we usually take 5-6 bags, not counting carry ons. But our bags fit inside of each other. We also put the bags under the bed. We put our life vests on the top of the closet shelf. Had no problems.
It is always funny to see all that luggage outside the door when we are leaving. I'm always embarassed so I quickly depart or enter our cabin when the luggage is outside.

Oh - one more thought...we also packed a soft sided rolling cooler. When we got on board, we had our wine inside. At the end of the cruise, we were able to use it for souvenirs and such. It worked great.

It seems that no matter what length trip we take we each take one suitcase and a carryon. For shorter trips it is a small suitcase, for longer trips a larger suitcase.

Sometimes my girls will carry an extra "shoe" bag with all their shoes. Even for the August 14 day repo...I "hope" to pack one suitcase and a carryon.

we got a killer deal on rolling duffle bags at http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=6314-29&cat=CAR

We got them for $35 but they appear to be on sale right now.

We can fill two of these with all the non-formal wear for 2 weeks. Once unpacked they collapse to a fairly thin size. We figure 2 of these collapsed under one bed, and the 3 life jackets under another bed.

We then have three carry on bags, and three "personal" items to carry on. The personal items are a tote bag each for me and DD with digital cameras, discman, CDs, wallets, passports, reading material, etc. DH's personal item is the laptop bag, which will also house a digital camera, and a digial camcorder.

The three carry on bags have the beverages (in one) and bathroom stuff (make up, hair dryer, curling iron, face washing stuff, etc. etc.) in the others. We also have a change of clothes per person in one of the carry on bags.

For 3 of us we took 4 rolling duffles. They were great fitting under the bed. We each had one and one was for formal and other stuff. We had a small roller that just fit a case of water too and then we used it for our souvenirs on the way home. We each took a carryon too. For a 7 day, we took too many clothes! But I washed 1/2 way through the cruise. (4 loads). If I wouldn't have washed, we would have used all those clothes!

Since we had a limit of 2 bags per person checked....we had...surprise...2 bags per person checked!

Of course, the kids don't take up whole luggages so mommy gets to put shoes and cameras and stuff in their bags...and the stuff we leave on board or throw away leaves us plenty of space for the new stuff we lug home!

on most 7 day cruises, we take 3 suitcases and a garment bag for our family of 4.....we also pack an empty duffle bag for "loot" ....we always return with way more than we came with....

On my upcoming 3 day with DS-9, we will take only the garment bag and one medium sized suitcase....

TIP: Dont bring oversized suitcases since they do not fit under the bed...it is actually more convenient to maybe bring one more medium sized suitcase....you really gain alot of storage space when you can stow your suitcases under the bed....

Ok, there are 9 of us, me, dh and the seven kiddos and we take THREE suitcases, and ONE garment bag on our one week cruises. We also take a huge empty duffel bag which we use to bring home all the dirty laundry and then put all our souvenirs in one of the then empty suitcases. I usually do laundry once on the ship.

I guess on our first couple of cruises we packed more, but seems like the more often we go, the less we pack.

For 4 of us, 7 day, 2 suitcases 1 duffel bag, 4 carryons. Mind you our kids are tall and older, so they have adult sized clothes. DW is 5'6", DD is 5'7", I'm 6'2", DS is 6'3".
But we did laundry on board. Basically at home, lay everything out, and take half of it. We didn't use everything we took.

After 3 cruises, I have learned that for 4 of us (2 adults and 2 children), we only need two large suitcases and one garment bag for our formal clothes, plus one carry-on bag for each adult to hold the documents, and the other for extra clothes. In fact we just returned from the July 2 Magic and I realized that the kids did not use 1/3 of the clothes I had packed for them. During the cruise, I have a laundry bag to store all used clothes. When the cruise comes to an end, I just pack the used clothes in one of the large suitcases and then pack the unused clothes and our new souvenirs, pictures, etc in the other. Aside from our casual wear/beach wear, we had enough clothes for formal night, tropical/pirate night, Palo dinner, Palo brunch, etc.

grlzmom - you deserve a prize! That's amazing! I think you should be upgraded on your next cruise!! :rotfl: :earseek: :earseek:

4 suitcases for 9!!! WOW!!

I was actually going to post about our suite cases, we have two large, the largest ones that they make, i was wondering if anyone has cruised with large suite cases and is there room under the bed or closet for them?

we maybe down sizing since AA baggage can not weigh anymore the 50 lbs otherwise they charge $$ per bag overweighted.

The last cruise we went on we took our largest sized suitcase and a medium suitcase. That was a 4 night cruise... I am hoping with the 7 night we can do the same. We took a lot of stuff we didn't need. I think almost half of the medium sized suitcase was just "stuff" and snacks. We didn't use half of the drinks and stuff that we brought. This next cruise we are only bringing some bottled water.

I am also interested if anyone has tried a larger suitcase under the bed. We tried with our last time but didn't know the trick of lifting up the bed!

Thanks,
Kelly

How much luggage do you take?
Just enough to get all of our clothes and stuff in.;)

We try to stick with one suitcase and one carryon per person. But we usually end up with 1 extra suitcase.

We've done a "practice packing" for our DL/Cruise/WDW trip and if we get another large suitcase we will manage to have only one suitcase per person this time (yea, we will be doing laundry before getting on the ship and sometime in the middle of the cruise but hey, for 3 weeks we're not doing too bad!!)

2 adults and 1 11 yr. old DD for night in hotel + 4 nt. cruise =

3 pc. rolling luggage set (small, med., and "regular size" large), 1 pc. of child's luggage (shoes only), and one garment bag.

I have a super-duper large one that I didn't take, but once packed, you can't pick it up to put it in the trunk...it takes two people. I KNOW that it'd definitely be overweight by airline standards. Our tablemates from CA had to pay for overwt. luggage when they flew in.

I packed the smallest rolling pc. for "overnight", then repacked it in the Radisson parking lot the next morning. (things that we didn't need for a "day bag" went into the other checked pcs.)

We took the small rolling one and a beach bag on as our carryons.

BE SURE TO PACK AT LEAST ONE EMPTY DUFFEL BAG FOR THE NEW STUFF YOU'LL BUY!!!

Thank goodness for the DCL bag that DU sent us....it took it AND the duffel bag to get all the souvies in!!!
