This past weekend Nemo brought in almost $4M (Gross is $312M, so far). Enough to push it past Attack of the Clones. It should slip in to the Top 10 All Time (not adjusting for inflation) by the end of next week.

The question is... How many more weeks will Nemo be an option? Last week, it generated more than $1M per day, everyday.

Today is Day 60 in the theaters! Another 2 weeks? Maybe 3? If it stays 3 weeks, it should pass The Lion King ($328M)!!!!

Hey AV, did this movie make any money? Or are all the proceeds going to the pixar, the actors, and the programmers?

I'm not sure abuot Nemo but up until Nemo Pixar films accounted for about 45 percent of the Disney Studios' income.

Would a movie like this get one more good hit just before school starts back up? Don't parents try to find a way to spend a little time with kids at the end of summer vacation ? Of course, that's still about three weeks away-depending on where you live- and Nemo may fade off most screens.

I imagine as long as it continues to bring in $500 a day per screen it will continue to be in the theatres. This past weekend was the first weekend it really took a hit and I think it might recover a lot of that.

Other than the 'Freaky Friday' remake there won't be any new competition so it might last quite a while.

It's amazing that it has a shot at topping LK, but equally amazing is the lack of publicity this has received. When Shrek was rolling all I saw on tv was 'Shrek this' and 'Sherk that'...I truly believe there could be an anti-Disney bias out there in this regard..

I think the lack of publicity is due to it being related to Disney/Pixar. When Dreamworks found success it was newsworthy because it was the first non-Disney animated film to find such widespread appeal and success. Also, it did not stay purely to the young kids formula that was pervasive at the time in Disney animation. It surely didn't hurt that the movie itself poked fun at the Disney fairy tales and theme parks.

As far as Nemo, it does look like Nemo has a remote shot at passing Lion King in the all-time list, but by today it should cross the mark for Lion King's first theatrical release, which brought in about $312.8 million. That makes it the top-grossing release in the history of animated films - no small victory!

Nemo took a hit this weekend because of the opening of Spy Kids. Given the generally poor reaction to that movie it's likely the families will be lining up for the fish once again next weekend. There aren't really any other family movies coming out so Nemo will remain the "take the kids out to the movies" choice all the way up until schoold starts again. At this point I don't think it's even playing in the discount theater chains – that will be good for another $10-$15 million. At this rate the movie will still be in theaters when the home video is released.

My experience has been that Nemo is getting much more attention this year than Shrek did. I've seen news stories on everything from the suddenly popularity of clown fish at pet stores to warning from the local water company not set your fish free by flushing them to the PETA morons smashing up empty fish tanks.

"Event" movies are so commonplace now that they don't have the hold on the public agenda that they used to. Every week is another "mega colossal hit that everyone is talking about". And with home video and cable, more people are choosing to wait to see a film. You don't get the mega lines are the theaters like you once did.

In the end Nemo will make tremendous amount of real profit. What tends to kill live action finances are the percentage deals given to "big" name stars, directors and producers. Pixar doesn't sign deals that – they go for talent rather than "star power" and developing talent over hiring the hot guy from the outside.

How much goes to Disney and how much goes to Pixar is somewhat up in the air. The deal is they split all the profits after Disney subtracts its "expenses". Everyone in town is expecting (and looking forward to) a rather mammoth lawsuit to erupt when the Pixar-Disney divorce becomes official. Pixar already took Disney to court, and won, over merchandising rights.

And just to let you know this is how all of Hollywood works, I just heard the people who owned the original rights to My Big Fat Greek Wedding have just filed a suit as well. That movie cost less than $5 million to make but brought in over $240 million at the box.

The studio just told them Wedding still hasn't turned a profit.

Thanks AV. I knew that you would have some good insight to my question. Whereas, I don't always agree with what you post, I do find your posts informative and fun to read.

Pixar / Disney Divorce? Huh, Don't you think that they can work this out with a more lucrative second contract?

Well, I don't think M. Voice theres a snowballs chance in the Test Track heat chamber of a new relationship.

But I'm quite sure that a new accord will be reached...I'm letting you know because I know how much weight my opinion carries around here (none) - And if I wait utill I'm asked something I'd never be posting again!;)

E Television was claiming that Nemo is now the top grossing animated film of all time on TV today. They even said it had passed The Lion King.

I tend not to pay much attention to "e" type shows. I happened upon a Top 10 Summer Move special edition the other night (I think it was Access Hollywood) and it listed POTC at number 8 behind 2fast 2 furious, charlies angles 2, hulk, and legally blond 2. Supposedly the movies were rated based on how much they had already made and what the projection was for them. I think the only 3 that they had correctly above Pirates were X-2, Reloaded, and Nemo.

That isn't to say that Nemo won't pass Lion King, but I don't think it has yet for the full amount. Perhaps it has - as was stated in another thread somewhere - it did pass The Lion Kings first theatrical release, but not its total in box office - at least not yet!

And to think, it hasn't even been released in Europe yet. What's the deal with that? How come we don't get to see Nemo till October?

Maybe they are hoping to boost 3rd quarter numbers by releasing in October.

Don't get to see it till October?? It comes out on DVD here in the States in Nov. I'm SURE you ahve a friend or relative that could mail one over. :)

That aside, my 3 year old has seen it 3 times! And now we're going to see it again tomorrow. 4 times! MAN! I've never seen ANY movie 4 times in a theater in my whole life. EVER! Twice is the tops and even that was only for about 2 movies.

BUT, he is the only child AND he is the only grandson AND he is the only nephew. Yep, he's loved. :)

I'll be doing that Nemo bathroom in a few months for those of you that saw my son's Lion King room. :) I see much of the Nemo stuff is gone from the online Disney store. I gotta get that Peach bathmat! She's my son's favorite. We've got the big Peach, the little Peach and the Peach beanie. To him it's Mama Peaches, Baby Peaches and Tiny Baby Peaches. :) He had Peach with him at the hospital for his sugury last month and it was the ONLY thing that got a smile out of him. Well, it was us all hitting each other with Peach that got the smile!
And the kid just can't stop talking whale!
Rock on Nemo!
