How much is too much when making room requests?

I usually never request more than non-smoking and a particular building but I've read so many times people requesting more than that I thought I'd give it a try.

I called CRO tonight to add this request to my Pop ressie (we have two rooms):

non-smoking
70's close to Classic Hall
4th floor
adjoining/connecting rooms

The CM said NO WAY could I request all that. She said she'd put non-smoking and 70's building and that's it. I did ask her to please add the part about Classic Hall and she agreed to do that much. She asked if I'd stayed there before and when I said no then she wanted to know how I knew what to request. I told her I'd seen a map on the internet.

I'm usually so hesitant to request a lot because I don't want to be a pain and now I feel really stupid!!! Do they have a limited area of how much they can type in the "request" field? Anyone know?

I have been told that anything over two requests and you don't have as good of a chance. I hae read this quite a few times on this as well as other sites. I usually pick my two top wants and then also talk to the castmember when we get there. Both times I talked to a castmember at the desk at check in she was able to help me with any other requests. I know this doesn't always happen but it can't hurt to try it.

Is the connecting rooms important? Because you may want to get that added as your second request if it is..

I have usually requested non-smoking, a building or section of the resort and the highest floor possible. I have never been told it's too much, although sonce I didn't get any request besides non-smoking

I would pick connecting rooms as your first choice and then decide among the others for one more. Most rooms are non smoking and you can handle that one at check in.

The connecting rooms is low priority actually, even though I'd hate it if one of us was in the 50's and one in the 90's! We're two families traveling together so being in the same general area would be good but we don't need too much closeness, if you know what I mean!

As long as your reservations are 'tied' together, I think they will do everything possible to have you close to each other. Are there 8 or more people in your party? If so, I believe you qualify as a Magical Gathering and then you even have a better chance of being close by. (We had a group of 9 in 3 rooms and ended up in 3 rooms in a row.) If not, make sure your reservation references their reservation and visa versa.

I usually tell clients to limit their requests to 2 OTHER THAN smoking/nonsmoking. That one I usually don't count. I also ask for the REASON they want that request. So if someone tells me they want 3rd floor at the Poly and their reason is "so that we can sit out on the balcony and chat when the kids are asleep" then I can mention that to the CM. That way it can be noted and if a 3rd floor room isn't possible, the room assigner will know that 1st floor with a patio is a better fit than 2nd floor with just a window. If I didn't note WHY then they would be more likely to get 2nd floor b/c the CM would think it was b/c they just wanted an upper floor. Does that make sense? Considering that when they review the ressie with me the CMs usually read me back what they have in the notes field and they have the requests and why, I assume they have a fair amount of room there.

The same advice holds true when you are checking in. Tell them WHY you have that specific request so they can find the best fit for you.

I'll throw in my two cents:

If you're on the 4th floor and are planning on using the elevators, it doesn't matter whether your room is on the far wing, or the closer wing to Classic Hall -- the distance is EXACTLY the same. Why? Because for the closer rooms, you still have to backtrack to the elevator.

All connecting rooms at Pop Century will be the ones closest to the center of the building. The rooms on the ends of the wings will be non-connecting.


Also, reiterate your requests upon check in. This way, the CM can check to see if anything is available that better suits your needs.

I believe if we were at the end of a wing we'd use the stairs to go down and probably go to the elevator when going back up.

I requested 70's bldg and upper floor when initially making the ressie. I also wanted a lakeview room, but didn't want to ask for too much. When we arrived at noon the CM said our room wasn't ready yet. I then asked if it happened to be a lakeview room. It wasn't, but she put us in a room that was in the 70's, 3rd floor and lakeview that was already cleaned and we got immediate access!

I put in a few requests as well during 2 separate calls. We will be staying at Pop May 21-28. I first requested 50's, upper floor, and a lake or pool view (I believe the CM put down pool). On my second call, I requested Nonsmoking. LOL I don't know why I didn't think of that first. I am actually more concerned about the section we are in. I have stayed in the 60's before and didn't want to pay extra again for Preferred but I also didn't want to be in 90's as it just doesn't appeal to me. LOL

I have also found that when I have gotton a very reduced rate at the Yacht or Beach Club, say through SoG, etc. My choice of standard rooms are not what the choice would be if I were paying closer to the rack rate. This isn't something that they "advertise" but I was being checked in by a CM with absolutely no personality who came right out and said, "these are your room choices based on your rate". I said that I booked a standard room and he clearly indicated that I was being given a room that was not in a prime location based on my rate. That has happened twice.

I always lucked out. I basicaly made the same requests for our stays. I didn't always get them all, but the room assignors did alright by me.
I always knew they were requests, and nothing was guaranteed. And I stated this as my own disclaimer when making the requests. Sometimes I even asked for a specific building.

My requests were:
Non smoking
Top floor
Corner room
Back side
Near an elevator

I always let them know besides smoking, our priority was quiet.
I am sure some may have been rolling their eyes on the other end. But I never had anyone say that was too many or refuse to note them.
I think they may have thought I was asking a lot. But I just wanted to let them know what I wanted, if we had a perfect world.

I know that non-smoking is not even guaranteed, unless you specifically note it is due to health issues.

I figure it is always worth asking. The most they can do is say no.

You are the guest/customer. You can ask for anything you wish. They will do what they can. I don't think you should hesitate to ask.

I don't think that your requests are out of line. Where it gets tough is when people have their heart set on one thing only. At POR a desk clerk last trip told me that so many people MUST HAVE ROOM 14## and they are devasted that they can't have that particular room.

Some times too much information is a bad thing - there are 2,000 really nice rooms at POR!

I have asked for 2 smoking rooms. I would like to be to connecting rooms, but if not, hopefully in the same bldg.

I don't plan on smoking in my room (this is why we want two, so we can use one as a smoking room itself).

I have seen many smoking questions on here, but don't remember seeing this one. If you have a smoking room, but don't want to smoke in it, am I going to be wrong for smoking on the walkway (since I would assume those around me have rented the same kind of room?). I would only probabaly do this for the last smoke of the night, I am staying at ASMo. I of course, will dispose of my butts properly.

I know I read a thread about NOT smoking on walkways and various other places around resorts of NON-smoking room bldgs. but not smoking. This will be my only 2nd trip to a resort, and don't want to make anyome around me uncomfortable.
