How much is it to make your own light saber at Downtown Disney's Once Upon A Toy?

I've seen a you tube video of a little boy making one, and the CM working there was pretty much doing it all for him. Is that the way it normally works, or can the kids actually do it themselves? It looks like fun, but not if an adult does it all for you. I would think taking your time to decide what pieces to use and screwing them all in on your own would be the best part, so I hope that video wasn't the norm. What has your experience been? Also, is there one fee or does it vary by the size of the finished light saber?

Thanks!

Hello! I currently work at Once upon a Toy.

The kids can do it themselves. When I am put on saber, I show them how to do it and if they are having trouble I help them adjust it and such. Some of the cast members get frustrated and don't have the patience to wait on children to do it themselves :sad2:

OH. I also ask if they need help and if you say yes, THEN I help but I am not going to just pop up and start doing it for you.

It is one fee.
A single [with one blade] is $21.95 and a double sided [two blades similar to darth maul] is $24.95

There is one set price, doesn't matter what piece you put on. Any other questions, let me know!

We did it last year and the year before at the store by Star Tours. My son did it himself both times. He paid for it with his own money the second time, that is how much he liked it. He was slow but there was no line so it's not like he was holding anyone up. I can see where they might move the kiddo along if there was a line.

As a parent... these are cheap lightsabers. They don't hold up to play as well as some of the other lightsabers we've bought over the years. The parts are the same as the build your own lightsaber kits they sold in stores a few years back. But if your kid is a Star Wars fan they will absolutely love doing this, so it's worth the cost IMO to do it at least once.

When my son made one in 2010 the CM was doing everything for him. I asked my son if he wanted to do it himself and he said yes, so the CM backed off.

Just a note! Unless this changed between Hollywoodhaha's CP and mine in Spring 2011, only one side of a "double" lightsaber (Darth Maul style) lights up.

Is this something that is easily taken apart again for the suitcase on the way home? My son is eager to do it.
