We may split something this time as we always have so much left over and have no room for dessert. But I would prefer a salad and Dh would want gumbo. I did not see anywhere on the menu at allears.net how much a cup of gumbo is. Does anyone know?

Last time I was there, dh and I were able to each order our own sides. We split a meal but the split plate charge includes each of you getting a full order of the sides. I don't know if they will always do 2 separate ones--seems to me I recall that you are supposed to both order the same thing--but our server didn't mind at all. If I were you, I would ask first if you can get a salad and a gumbo.

If the answer is no, sorry, I don't know how much a cup of gumbo costs.

this is what the menu said...

Each entree served with choice of Cajun-inspired wedge salad or a cup of our signature New Orleans gumbo.

Split Plate Charge $4.00

it looks like you'd have a choice of sides with the $4 charge.

I have read several posters say recently that now they truly split the plate which means half a salad or half a cup of soup. Each entree usually comes with two sides anyway. They just split the entree and give each person one side, thus splitting the plate. So literally you are now paying $4 for them to put one order on to two plates with no additional benefit except to have room for dessert :cool1: But I know DH will not be happy with half a cup of gumbopirate:

I dont know the answer for you, but what I would do is have Dh order a cup of gumbo as his meal, you order what you are going to "split" with the salad. Then just let him eat off your plate.
I would guess a cup of gumbo would not be too much mor e than the split plate charge.....but what do I know :lmao:

When I was there in August my brother and I decided to split a meal (Monte Cristo). We both loved the Gumbo, so asked if we could get an extra, so we could each have the starter. We were told that is impossible; they split everything, including the gumbo (or salad) in half. The server apologized and said they are trying to change it, so maybe they have. We still split the meal, and were pleasantly surprised - I don't know who to thank, but we still definitely got more than half a gumbo each, and more than half of everything! Not equal to a full gumbo, but still worth it. It might be different for lunch too - we were only there at supper, but then it was impossible to order an extra gumbo.:sad2:
