In my previous post, I asked about another place I was considering for offsite for part of our stay. Someone mentioned Windsor Hills. I had never considered renting a condo/townhouse/etc before, but I am thinking about it. While saving a lot of $ on a cheap hotel room sounds nice, looking at the reviews, you get what you pay for.....

So, what could I expect to pay at, say, Windsor Hills for a 2-bedroom? Are there any others I should consider that would be reasonably priced and just as close to Disney? I do need to keep the price reasonable.

Thanks,

I think it ranges. My mother is renting a 2 bed condo in WH in March for $700 a week. I personally thought she could do significantly better (I have seen other DISers report more like $600), but she went ahead and booked it before I had a chance.

WH has more amenities than most other similar resorts right now, and you will pay more to stay there. Neighboring communities just as close to WDW like Emerald Island and Windsor Palms also have condos and I would bet they are a bit lower.

Where is a good place to check out prices/book through?

The rates are most affected by the time of year you are going. For example, at X-mas the rates are at their highest, but might be almost half that during the lowest season. It also depends on which specific unit you are looking at. I spent a couple of weeks looking online at pictures of so many townhomes I can't even count them. Some are pretty bare bones and some are downright luxurious. I can tell you that we are spending $154/night, including tax and pool heat, over X-mas for a 3 br town home that I thought was one of the nicest I looked at.

I booked directly through the owner. After I narrowed my choices down to about four I emailed the owners directly to ask specific questions and discuss price. From that I chose the one I went with. I know that some condo's/townhomes at WH are rented directly by the owners and some are handled by management companies who do the renting. I don't think there is any one "site" that will give you everything out there. It takes a bit of digging. Windsor hills has an owners website, I don't know the email address of the top of my head, but that's a good place to start. Also vrbo.com, look specifically for WH.

...and paid about $75 - $80 per night AND got the cleaning fee waived. We were there for two weeks, though, so we got a good break for that. The place where we stayed was a 3BR, 2BA place. Owner was awesome. I think his 'normal' rate at the time we went was $90 per night. It was a great deal. PM me if you want his contact info...

I don't know how many are in your party, but in my experience, there's very little (if any) difference in price in a 2BR and a 3BR, so if you could use the extra room, you may want to check on that.

.. this site is run by the owners at Windsor Hills - you will get a huge choice of homes and rates.

I am currently receiving quotes from them :thumbsup2

And as far as the 3br vs 2br, so far the cheapest quote I have gotten is for a 3br for $452.28 for 4 nights, including all taxes and cleaning fee.

How I can I "check out" an owner that I am considering renting from to ensure they are legitimate? I know in an agreement like this both parties are taking a chance, but once they get my money, they are pretty much in the clear, KWIM?

I was offered condos $550-750 and Townhouses $750 and up.

I made a rather specific request thru the windsorhillsrent.com and got tons of offers.

I went with 3 bedroom/3bath for $750.00.

We are staying at Bonnet Creek for $542.00 for a week next month in a 2 bedroom unit. I purchased this on ebay. I also purchased this at the last minute as September is not a busy time.

One point that I should add:

Some people don't consider it a vacation if they have to do their own bedding or have to cook meals. It all depends on what your personal definition of vacation is.

For me it is going away for fun with my family, and if doing a bit of work [with the help of DH and DKs] makes it possible to save money and go more frequently, we are all for it.

I have friends who would NEVER do this b/c they'd never use the kitchen, don't consider it a vacation if they have to make beds and would never dream of doing laundry while away.

To each his own defintion! :D

I think after 7 days of being "forced" to eat out, I will actually be looking forward to making some of our own meals. ;)

And who says you have to make the bed - as my DH says, it's just going to get messed up when you go back to bed anyway :lmao: . Not like anyone else is going to see it :confused3

Since we will be gone for 12 days, I am going to have to do laundry at least twice. Actually, I would LOVE it if all our clothes were freshly laundered when we left - no laundry to do when we get home! That is one of the biggest things I hate when we get home from camping.

This is us exactly.

We definitely do NOT make up beds. Pitching the towels in the washer is easier to me than worrying about having them replaced. Also, I don't like to have maids in the room when I'm gone anyway.

Sometimes we cook some simple meals, sometimes we don't. Either way, we have the fridge for snacks along with the microwave for popcorn, etc. If we want to pop a pizza in the oven, it's right there.

I also agree 100% about having the clothes clean when I get home - just unpack and put them away, but even if I didn't do that, it's nice to have the washer if you spill something on your clothes and don't want the stain to set.

I love renting condos and houses!

I agree with all of the above: we hate waiting for maids, love having a washer and dryer, kitchen, pool, like living with all I have at home while I'm on vacation, and who makes beds anyway!
People that say they don't do laundry on a 2 wk vacation can be found waiting for a washer/dryer in the laundry room of a hotel at some point during that time. I can throw mine in the washer and sit by the pool or go to bed. :)
