How Much Does Your Work Commute Cost?

My commute is 42 miles/day round trip. I get about 24 mpg, so I use about 1.55 gallons of gas per day on commuting. With current gas prices, that works out to about $6.50/day in gas.

I carpool so it's not everyday, but when it's my car driving, it's 60 miles round trip. My car gets roughly 28-32 mpg on that sort of commute, so probably 2.5 gallons of gas. Today that would cost me about $10-$11.

$1.00/day. It's 6 miles round trip. At the current price of gas where I live and MPG my vehicle gets, it's a buck.

This time last year it was 86 miles round trip from my residence. Cost would be over $14/day.

Tho when we filled up last night one station said 5.17/gal and the other was 4.49, Crazy the price difference when they are literaly across the street from each other. And even crazier is that people were paying the higher price.

diesel here is just shy of $5 per gallon which seems crazy b/c a week ago it was $4.37 but i guess we can't complain too much-my brother is finding the best price he can get in his state is over $6 per gallon

with all the talk of increasing costs for gas i got curious about how much my former work commute would cost me today-i ran the numbers and between a $7 bridge toll and what my google search showed for the average gas prices in that region my not spectacular but not horrific mpg vehicle would cost me just shy of $30 per day factor in the increased servicing and maintenance costs over what i require now as well as the higher insurance (saw a nice reduction when i could show proof of annual mileage well below some arbitrary number my insurance company set) and WOW

Interesting. I just mailed my mileage readings in, first since I retired. Some of my retired neighbors have warned me my insurance will go UP despite lower mileage being driven because pleasure miles generate more claims. Or so they say.

Was 30 miles round trip when I used to go into the office. Add in wear and tear, no work wardrobe, etc, and I tell my husband going wfh was like my getting a 10% raise.

For the Household we have two cars... each get 25+ MPG and all together we drive about 500 miles a week.

My husband and I usually carpool together 20 miles RT to work, and we usually have to pick up one of our spawn from Umass, so then that adds another 20 miles.... so 40 miles RT 5x a week= about 200 miles a week for work/school.

My daughter is the other one using our car, she has a 50 mile RT commute to school/work/dance and that is 6 days a week so 300 miles a week.

I say we usually fill up each car once a week and now that is around $50 +/-, so now we are spending about $100 a week on gas

I work from home so just the cost of my internet. I probably spend about $3 a day in fuel for kids school. When I did work it was a 12 mile round trip commute which is about one gallon on my truck. My wife and I don't like commuting AT ALL we have a smaller house in the city just so we don't have to commute. It's just not for us, everyone has their thing. Wife's work is about 1.5 miles away.

My commute is 15 miles round trip and my car gets 32 mpg. I pay $120 a month for parking (even on a hybrid schedule it’s cheaper for me to pay monthly vs daily). So with current gas prices I’m paying around $18 a day going in 3 days a week. I bring my own lunch and coffee.

3 mile commute each way, I'm fortunate to usually only have to gas up every couple of weeks.

Now heating oil, on the other hand, is a MUCH higher bill living here in CT.

I have WFH for almost 5 years now. My husband, on the other hand, commutes an hour each way every weekday during the school year. He previously WFH for 7 years, so we kinda switched lol. Gas is $4.09/gal in our area, hoping it falls back down prior to next school year.

I have an electric vehicle and a short commute (5 miles ea way). Electricity is about 11.4 cents/kWh and it should take around 2.4 kWh to cover that commute. So around 27 cents per day for charging costs.

I pay $65 every two weeks for personal usage. The company takes care of all fuel, maintenance, and rental ( if needed ).

My current job is 20 miles each way. It costs about 2 cents a mile in my Chevy Bolt which works out to 80 cents a day.

I would say it is about 20 miles roundtrip. At $4.something a gallon. My car says on the screen I am averaging about 28MPG. Rough math would say it's costing me $3.something a day to go back and forth to work.
