How much does Santa bring to your house?

Santa uaually has to reload at the North Pole for our haul-and it is just 1 child. The problem is that many gifts are video games or DVD's, which look small-so it seems like nothing is under the tree. Probably spent around $400.00 this year. Although the Disney Store BOGO toy is enticing.

I always find it funny that when we are done buying for Santa that we also end up having most of the Easter Bunny bought as well. We usually just hold some of the stuff back knowing we bought too much.

When DD was younger, we usually spent $200-300 on her for Christmas. Frequently, it was for horse show stuff that she needed anyway.

Now that she's in college, she gets $500 cash. She's on scholarship, so her school expenses don't cost us anything. She uses the money for new clothes or whatever else she wants.

I'm so glad to hear everybody else's $dollar amounts, I always felt like we were the only ones who went so crazy at Christmas. None of my friends spend as much as we do.

Is there a 12 step program for this?

:)

At our house our kids get one gift each from Santa and it is usually less than $100. The rest of the gifts come from us. Our kids get so much stuff from other family members that we try to get them a few gifts that they really want rather than getting a set number or $$ amount.

My two big kids (19 & 12) get more & bigger stuff, so they are probably at about $250 each. I used to be able to keep it to $100 but not anymore. Of course, they off-set my autistic one. He doesn't care about Christmas, doesn't play with toys, only watches "Fantasia", and has no hobbies(other than running away  ) so we spent about $50 on him for snacks, pants, and a light-up pillow.

Santa always brings one large gift and stocking stuffers.

Mommy, on the other hand, doesn't have anywhere near Santa's self-control. :rotfl2: My big problem is that I forget what all I've stashed. By the time I dig it all out, I've gone way overboard!

Thats my problem!

I bought a bunch of stuff for Cam this year because I thought I had way more girls thing well guess what? I had stashed a bunch of his stuff away that I bought for him throughout the year and had forgotten about it So instead of doing the smart thing and just putting some otehr stuff away I had to buy the girls more things, right? right?.... hmmmm well maybe not! ;)

Momma always said " its only a good deal if you need it"

LOL

I USED to keep a list in a binder of everything I bought but I got out of that habit this year. Guess Im going to have to go back again.

That is my problem too. I need to get them all out and take a good look see. (that is a great idea, the baby is sleeping and the other at preschool right nowl)

We are going to WDW this year, so no big gifts. Also there really isn't anything "big" they need or want.

I was wondering how many to say where from stanta. I did a lot of work. I don't want him to get all the credit. I think 3 from Stanta for each kid sounds good. The rest can be from me.

We did get a few things at the TDS BOGO free sale. A few things we had from an old sale. My problem is the baby. We have so many old toys her age group from her big sister she doesn't really "need" anymore. However I want to be fair. ( I feel sorry for 2nd kids sometimes, but only for a min.)

I have tried really hard to keep it even both in money and number of gifts. The problem is I have wrapped in stages and have forgotten what all I have boughten. SO I keep thinking I have not enough for one kid so I buy more for that one, then I think I don't have enough for another. IT's crazy. I just want christmas to get here.

I go overboard too. I am even worse because I don't really keep track of how much money we spend on DS. I do have to admit that it is easier since we do only have one child. I don't have to worry about keeping things even with any one else. I remember my mom having a terrible time doing that with my 2 sisters and I when we were younger. My oldest sister used to count presents and the words "HEY she got more!" was heard every Christmas. I'd say we spent around $400 on ds this year. He's getting about 20 gifts not counting stocking stuffers. If I had more money I'd probably still be buying stuff for him though

As DS(9) has gotten older the number of gifts from Santa has dwindled, only a few are from him and the rest are from mom and dad. This may be the last year he "believes" though. :(

Hmm, DD is an only child and the youngest on both sides, so Christmas is an extraveganza at our house!

Santa is bringing the My Little Pony Butterfly Island and a car-carrier full of new matchbox cars. We bought some games and smaller crafty things and stuff we can do together. Since she is an only, we try to get her games that we can play as a family so we have variety and don't end up playing Hi-Ho-Cherrio four thousand times in a row!

We have instituted a grab bag for the cousins and that has helped limit presents from at least that side of the family. My dad generally goes a bit overboard but I suppose that is what Grandpas are for. There have been Christmases when we withheld things so we didn't overwhelm her but I think it is under control this year. I think I spent about $300, not too bad I think.

This is a very interesting thread. Our first is due the end of January and DH and I have been discussing Christmas and Santa and how we want to handle it. Christmas was a major, extravagant extravaganza at my house (and there were three of us) and not that big a deal at DH's house (and he was an only) so we think we're going to try to compromise. My parents and grandparents really did go overboard - sometimes to the point that by the time we had gotten to my Mom's parents on Christmas night (after my Dad's parents on Christmas Eve and Santa and my parents gifts on Christmas morning) we couldn't even remember half the stuff we'd gotten! DH on the other hand can still remember all these cool toys he wanted that he never got because his parents had a $20 toy limit or something like that. I've actually talked to my parents about it because I don't want them spending a fortune on DD if it will make DH's parents look bad - you know what I mean - to DD.

However - after all the stuff I've bought her before she's even here - I imagine it will be awfully hard to control myself. And since I keep the checkbook I won't really have to . . . :teeth: Just kidding. Don't flame me.

At our house, Santa brings one medium toy (afterall, he has to take presents to all of those boys and girls) and he stuffs the stockings to the gills. Mom and Dad give a few gifts per child. We've probably spent $200-$250 per child.

Our kids have four sets of grandparents. My Mom and Stepdad bought the kids books from our Amazon wishlist and shipped them direct. My Dad and Stepmom send $25 per child (last year, we took the kids to Build a Bear and this year, we just purchased gifts in the $25 range). Grandma and Poppa Ron are planning on getting a few gifts for each child. Nanna and Pop Pop go waaaaay overboard -- but they can afford to spend the money and they limit the overboard gifts to just Christmas, so it's not too bad.

I have a 12 and 13 year old. I spend in total about $150 - $200 apiece, that includes stocking stuffers, clothes, etc. They're past the toy thing mostly. When they were younger I balanced number of packages, because they opened together (i.e. each kid picked a package and opened it, then we moved to the next). But now that they're older, DS had a $70 item, and the most expensive thing DD got was $20, so she has far more packages than him.

I spend around 1,000 on my 6 year old daughter for Christmas...she gets one big gift-last year wasa computer, this year a good portable DVD player. Everything comes from santa except one or 2 gifts from me...
She was tlaking to a friend and the friend said how santa brings one present to her on christmas..my daughter thought about that and said "you must be pretty bad for santa to only bring you one gift, he brings me lots"...the kid went crying to her mom about why does santa think she is bad and only gets one gift LOL...

We only have one child so we don't have to worry about keeping things even. I don't keep track of what I've spent or how many gifts I purchased.

Santa always brings too much but this year Santa started early (August) "to be good and stay ahead of the game" but that ended up backfiring b/c Santa has been buying things since August. When Santa started wrapping the gifts a few weeks ago, he realized there was more than he remembered! :confused3  ;)

I don't have Children, but Santa gave each of the pets a gift and SO a gift and then I bought SO some gifts.

I really don't know how much I spent this year. I did almost all of my shopping for the kids on Columbus Day and it has been wrapped for a long time. I know there is a list somewhere.

Santa brings all the toys at our house, Mom and Dad bring clothes, and maybe a toy that might have special meaning coming from Mom and Dad (Dad bought them crank up flashlights).

My girls are so close in age and tend to ask for the same things, so we either have two of everything or they share. It makes it easy to know that I am spending the same on each of them. Their big gifts from Santa this year are bikes and an ezbake over. The grandparents went in together to get them a wooden dollhouse with a bunch of accessories.

Well reading this thread I can see that I am spending way to much money on my kids for Christmas. I have two DD14 and DS17. I added up what I spent on DD14 and it was $1000.00. So far I only spent $500.00 on DS 17 so i have to spend the same amount on him as I did on her. I think I will just give him the cash. Next year I need to spend less money.
