How much does it cost to upgrade to AP?

I think they apply the price you paid for the tickets you hold toward the AP you want to upgrade to.....make sure you upgrade on your last day using your original tickets, as they will make the AP good for 1 year from that date.....

Also wait so you can get your Morning Magic.....as you don't get those with the AP.
If you plan on upgrading to take advantage of the discounts you get with them....then use your MM the first day you can & then upgrade.

Last I read, it is $60 per adult ticket and $90 per child ticket.

This is absolutely incorrect. They backdate your AP to the first day of use of your park hoppers. I know, I've done it and that's how it works. You want to upgrade on the last day only if you will have a blackout day during your visit or if you want to use the Magic Morning. APers do not have MM priveledges unless we stay on site. If the last day of use is a blackout day and you upgrade them (this is assuming you're upgrading to Deluxe or So Cal APs and not Premium) then you will not need to purchase blackout tickets for that day. As for the price to upgrade, you get credit for the amount you paid. Your tickets will be encoded with a value and you will be charged the difference between those tickets and the AP you wanted to purchase. I hope that helps. :)

Hmmmmm.....seems as tho when we upgraded it was a year from the upgrade day, but maybe my old brain is failing me.....definitely use your MM Entry first before upgrading tho!! Sorry if I misled anyone!

Thanks, everyone. :) 1300 bucks is hard to swallow to get everyone the good APs, even at 100 bucks or so a month. I suppose I might be able to handle one of those and then the other 5 just low level ones. $720 is alot easier to handle! Can you upgrade an AP after you buy it? Does anyone from northern CA have any experience getting the monthly payment option? I hear that they will generally okay that even though it's supposed to be for southern CA only.

When we upgraded, I got the premium & my hubby & son got the deluxe pass. We used mine for all dining & merchandise purchases & for the free parking. Saves you a bit doing it that way.

At DLR, you can continue to upgrade throughout the year. You'll still pay the same total price (there's no pro-rating) and you don't get the bigger discounts retroactively, but they do let you upgrade again (unlike WDW where you have 14 days period).

And like others have said, you pay the difference of the AP you want and the price you paid for your ticket (that's different from WDW too but in a less happy way, LOL). Use the MM (unless you're staying onsite, b/c staying onsite gets you MMs anyway) then upgrade, it will be backdated to the day you first used your ticket.

No, they definitely backdate it to the first day of your park hopper use. I could go dig them up but I'm not sure where I put them. lol

I know how you feel. It was a big step to do that upgrade but we had gift cards so in the end for the 4 of us it was only about $100 to upgrade! :scared1: How can you not when it's that great a deal? Luckily our families know how much we love it and how much we go and they just gave us gift cards. :) And yes, you can continue to upgrade to the next level of AP, but they do not prorate so keep in mind you will pay the full upgrade cost no matter when your AP expires. We did not do the payment plan, I used my Disney Visa and then paid it off when I was able to. :)

I just upgraded my 6 day hoppers today to a premium AP
It was backdated to the first day I used the hopper, but I also got credit for the parking I paid for our first day :cool1:
So be sure to save that stub if you are getting parking on your pass :)

This is true -- unless they make a mistake. We just got APs in January. The Bank on Main St (where you go to upgrade) had such long lines that they kept telling everyone to come back. (The lines were so long that there were hundreds of people being told to come back tomorrow -- even those of us who had the AP special.) We had the downloaded APs from the special they were running, so technically we weren't even supposed to be allowed in to get our APs, but they stamped the temporary tickets we had from our first day of use and allowed us back in the park. They actualy were encouraging hundreds of people to come back the next day. There was 1 designated CM just doing this all night. :scared:
On our 2nd night in the park, one CM backdated my AP to Jan 3, and another one dated my DH and DS's to Jan 4. (They didn't even bother to check the date.) Happy for them:yay:, sad for me!:sad1: Originally, my CM dated mine for Jan 4 and then she caught the mistake after making the AP & right before she handed it to me.:sad2: Then she made me another one and that's the one I got to keep.:sad1: It was nuts in January. I don't think they were prepared for the sheer number of people wanting to upgrade their passes or who bought the DAP special. We waited in line at least an hour, and we didn't even get a ride at the end!:rotfl:

I'm in NorCal and when I asked about the payment plan, the CM said it was only for SoCal residents. I mentioned that someone on this board was able to do it, and he still refused. So it sounds like it may depend on the CM you get to help you.

Yes, it does depends. If you are refused ask for a manager and they should be able to help you.

You can buy the Costco Deluxe AP for $269, same price as gate. But you get a $50 Disney gift card. That $50 can be applied towards upgrading to AP with parking or Premium AP. If you had also bought a park hopper pass then that amount would be credited as well. However, it is my understanding Disney will not give back any $'s if your credits exceed the cost of the Premium AP.

Actually they will only allow you to upgrade to a higher cost AP. So if your upgrade is less then the price of the park hoppers you hold they will not process the "upgrade" for you. They will tell you have to buy the next level of AP.
