We have gone every 3 years -- first time in 1997 to DL our kids were just 9 & 10. We stayed offsite and drove. In 2000 was our first trip to DW - 10 days at POR. We going in Oct 2003 -- 2 days at the beach, 6 days at HRH club, 8 days at YC conceirge. In between the disney trips we spend very little on vacations and entertainment. Example was today we went to the lake for the 4th (gas & food). We go a couple weekends a year to the Oregon coast and a couple local attractions every year. We save for the big trips and now kids are older and we make more $$ so we get to do it deluxe. But it is big $$$ since we now have 3 kids and we have to fly from the West Coast. It's worth every penny for the memories our family has and the joy I see on their faces talking about the last trip.

dejr_8----relax - I don't use Disney Nut as a derogatory term.

I am certainly glad to see that! Some people that have been on the board lately would have used it as a derogatory term.

Thank you for clearing that up for me.

We spend about two weeks of my pay.I work part time,my husband takes care of all the bills every month and I usually buy the groceries. We normally go on a nice vacation 2 or 3 times a year and he pays for that too, but, when we go to Disney I pay for the hotels and the PH.See on the other two vacations we always stay at a deluxe hotel ,but, at Disney he refuses to pay for more than the All Stars  ,since we don't spend that much time at our hotel (not true,we don't go commando),but, that is his excuse anyway. So, now I pay for the hotel .He always ask how much we are paying, but, I always tell him not to worry that I'm taking care of it and that makes him happy ;) .

Hmmm.....I think last time we were there for 7 nights with 2 nights driving time, it equaled approximatley one month of his and one month of my take home.

Hmmm......wonder when I'll get there. I have been out of college for 13 years and it still takes a LOT more than a week's pay for us to go (and it did before we had kids, too!) :)

Caity--You'll get there :) When I was two years out of college I couldn't afford to take a camping vacation to the local KOA! I'm not sure I could afford to buy a tent to camp in my own yard for that matter back then LOL!

Same here,

Our trip was more like a month's pay and that was just for my son and I.

Our next trip is only for 5 days and it will take more than 2 weeks pay to cover it.

Normally we take a look at what our tax return will be for the year and try to pay for the majority of our vacation from that. It works well for us. This year, DH finally settled a lawsuit he has had pending for quite some time, so since we are so happy to be done with that we are using some of the settlement money and having a nice little splurge for ourselves. :)

After reading some of the replys here I hope you guys can have some sympathy with us brits !! lol I guess that after taking spending money into account this years trip for a family of four will not leave much change out of £6000.00 and at a rate of 1.61 $ to the pound I figure that makes it about $9600.00 !! Any contributions gratefully accepted !! lolol

We went on our first trip to disney world We stayed at Dixie Landings and were there for 7 days. I didnt know about these boards or the deals you could get etc. I am now more thrifty, I watch for specials on the airline tickets and try every code etc for a good deal on a nice room. For us there is no cutting back on the park tickets and the food is always expensive.
We usually go every few years and I just save up for it along the way.
Our last trip was 9 days at the Wilderness Lodge in Aug 02.
We love Disney and would go every year if we could.
Our last trip was $6000.00. We had a terrific time.:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I'm British too so for us a disney holiday really needs saving up for. This year my husband and I are going with friends who have DVC points so they are using their points for the room and we are paying for their flights. I booked the flights before christmas and they cost £620 a ticket (I bought 4) but to book a seat on the same flight now is nearly £800!! Then we have to pay for a night in the airport hotel before we fly, 2 weeks car parking, park tickets, entry to discovery cove, spending money when we get there etc so I guess the holiday will cost about £3500/£4000. Plus we will be saving by staying in a DVC resort with friends!! I think thats quite a lot really for a couple. But then people work hard throughout the year for holidays which for us are at the other side of the world plus we don't have kids so to us it is worth it.

I have a home-based business and I use most of my income from it for our vacations and other extras that we could not otherwise afford. I end up using not quite half of what I make for the year on a disney trip. I use much less than that during years we do not go to WDW and choose to go elsewhere.

If this vacation came from my husband's salary it would take somewhere between 2-3 weeks of his salary to pay for it. We like to stay at the WL. If we were to stay at a value we could probably do disney for about a week and half's worth of his salary.

Being a family of 5 we can only afford to go to WDW every 2 years or so. This past year I joined the Christmas club at the Credit Union at my job. $2000(food and spending) and our room and tickets are around $2400 FTP at the FW Cabins. I try to pay off some each month. This will be the longest we've every stayed @ WDW and since my oldest is 17 and the last time he will want to come with us. I wanted it to be as special as we could afford it to be. So I don't mind if I have to work OT to have this last special family vac.

I don't know about this being the 17 year olds last year he'll want to come...... we just returned - our 27 & 25 year old "kids" had just as much fun as when they were younger. :)

Oh Gosh, that is tooooo funny. Ok maybe its MOM wishing its his last year that "I have to pay for him:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Roughly a vacation for the 2 of us costs me about 4-5 months worth of pay after taxes. It just depends on if it's a week or more than we stay as to how much money it takes. Mickey

I agree with #1hockeymom. I am a soccer mom of four who wouldn't give a trip to the world up for anything! When they were young (before soccer, violin, piano, baseball, homework, etc.) we camped alot and had great family time. Then we lost it for a few years until we decided it WAS worth a month's wages for 24/7 (or 10) with our kids!

There are 4 in my family. 5 day park hoppers w/4 options were 950.00. Air tickets from Chicago were 680. Rental car is down to 120.00. We plan on staying at BC which will be anywhere from 1050-2000 depending what we can whittle the room price down to. It's usually about 4000 for us to spend the week at Disney.

I'm wondering too! Our Christmas trip last year was for 2 weeks at the WL. We didn't keep exact figures on costs, but $7-$8000 wouldn't be far out of line. I wish I made $4000 a week, but since I don't I guess I'm one of those Disney nuts!
(btw, I consider it a compliment!!)

Our trip last month cost much less...6 nights total/1 @ CSR, 5 @ OKW. Because we already had the AP's and drove, we probably spent around $3500. Much less, but it still qualifies me as a nut!;)
