Just wondering how much you usually tip your hairdresser? Does it depend on how long you are there or what you are having done? Do you tip the same thing everytime?
I feel cheap! I usually tip around $10 on a $100 cut/color. I'm going to a new hair stylist on Monday, and after reading this thread I think I'll do 20%.
20% on the total - $10 for a cut, close to $50 for a cut and highlights (divided between 2 people), $3 - $5 for the hair washer (more if they do a glaze).
My tab for a cut and color is $86, I tip $20. She spends more time fussing with my hair than she really needs to, and it always look like a million bucks when I leave there.
I've taught DS to tip $3 for his haircut--he goes to a SuperCuts or Fantastic Sams type of place.
Thats what I do. I go to simple places as well, and its more of quick thing. Sometimes I make it an even amount for both haircuts--say the entire tip amount for me and my daughter would be $6.. instead of doing $4 and $2, I'll do $3 for both. In that case, its almost a 30% for my daughters hair--but she has thick layered hair, and it does take extra time.
Sometimes I'll even give the ladies a $5 tip because my daughters hair turns out so nice.
I wonder for this one --- I don't tip at all for my friend who has a secret basement business at her house. Cause she gets it all. Is this proper for me not to tip her?

I tip everyone..hairdressers, waitresses, etc. at least 20%...unless they are really bad then usually only standard 15%. If money is good and the hairdo is really good, it can be higher...depends on my mood.
