How much do you tip MOUSEKEEPING?

What should we tip Mousekkeping? We're staying in POR Sept 5th-14th and wonder if it's best to tip daily (is there a benefit to DAILY tipping?) or at the end of our stay? I dont want to be cheap and I dont want to "overdo"it! I have a feeling this job pays a little wage and they depend on tips to earn a living- but I'm not sure of this? We have a family of 6 and will be using the trundle bed and the portable crib so this is a consideration too although I insist on keeping the room tidy. Please give your opinions with the amounts you would tip for either the daily or the end of stay. Thank you!!

I usually leave atleast $2 per person in the room, depending on how messy the kids (and DH, who tends to be the worst sometimes! ) make the room. I've noticed that we've gotten MANY extra Mickey soaps and pens after leaving a tip daily.

We did $2 per person per night as well - in cute "Mousekeeping" envelopes - we also got LOTS of soaps/lotions, etc... plus lots of towel animals.

We also tip daily as the weekday Mousekeepers are not the same as the Weekend most of the times. We do $5 for a family of 3 just to make it easier.

Put it in an envelope and clearly mark it as they are no to just touch open money.

We had to track ours down on our T & T day as I thought I left it in a good place for her to see but must not have . She was very grateful when DW found her after she left.

You should always tip daily. However, this does not guarantee any extras. Last trip to CSR we tipped $5 a day and didn't even get 1 extra bar of soap. :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

I almost never tip housekeeping at WDW. At hotels, I only do it if we've left a mess in the room. (Which is more now that we have a DS.)

Why do folks think these are tipped positions?

I don't know Disney's official policy, but my DH's neice works in houskeeping at the Swan and she only makes $5.15 an hour and depends on tips.

I can't believe anyone would not tip a maid/housekeeping...no matter where you are! They are cleaning up after you and their pay certainly isn't included in the room rate. :confused3

Just saying Hi. We will be at ASmo 9-6 till 9-12. I was wondering the same thing. I will do $2 daily it sounds like is best. It will just be my daughter and I in our room.

I've traveled all my life and never tipped in hotels. Neither has anybody else I've traveled with, or I most likely would have picked up the habit.

We tip daily because you will not always have the same maid. I would feel bad if a maid took care of us for 5 days and we left the tip on the last day and it was her day off. This is the only way to guarantee the person who cleans your room gets the tip.

We tip between $5-$10 per day. We are a family of 5 so $1 - $2 per person. A family has more towels to pick up and more "stuff" to work around than just 2 adults so I feel we should give more.

I always thought everyone tipped the maids. I'm surprised to see that some don't.

As someone else who has travelled my whole life all over the country (and several trips to other countries), I have always tipped housekeeping as has everyone I have ever travelled with. I'm tipping for service, much like tipping servers at restaurants, valets, cab drivers etc. :)

Supposidly (I've never read it or gotten it) Disney hands out a guideline booklet at check in and it gives 'guidelines' for tipping and mousekeeping isn't mentioned so some take that as 'mousekeeping is not a tipped position'.

I tip housekeeping/mousekeeping and everyone I know does too. I've been to hotels where they even provide the tip envelopes.

I tip $1 - $2 a day, per person and I leave it daily in a special Mousekeeping envelope I make before I leave home. It's all party of the trip planning fun.

I just don't get why those who choose not to tip have to chime in to every single post where the OP is NOT asking if she/he should tip but IS asking how much to tip or whether to tip daily or just tip at the end. :confused3

Tip if you want to and don't tip if you don't want to; its a personal choice and no one is forcing anyone to tip.

We leave a daily tip of $5. I left more one night when my daughter spilled hot cocoa on the bed and they had to change the linens.

We also pick up after ourselves. We put all of our own pillows we bring from home and stuffed animals in a chair so the beds can be made easily, and we put all the towels in a pile on the floor, so all they really have to do is make the beds and pick up the towels, and wipe down the bathroom.

I always take a roll of paper towels and a container of Lysol wipes with so we can keep the table clean and stuff like that on our own.

This is minimum wage in the U.S. (unfortunately), so it's not a tipped position.

We tip $2 a person per day per person. I figure that it is just a small part of a travel budget that could mean a big difference to someone in a difficult, messy, thankless job. :) We have traveled all of my life, and my family has always tipped.

We also tidy, and make sure the beds, etc. are straightened and nothing is lying about. We made the mistake of not doing so when we were rushed to get all of the kids ready to be in a wedding, and, nothing was cleaned. They didn't vacume, even though the floor itself was tidy, because the beds had personal stuff on them. Purely selfish motives!

Here's an interesting link to a day in the life of a maid. Apparently, lots of folks think like me....

http://www.usatoday.com/travel/hotels/2005-03-24-maid-for-a-day_x.htm

That being said, after reading this article, I'm much more inclined to tip. You see, folks say minds aren't really changed on these boards, but you guys changed mine!

Thanks for the enlightenment! These days, I don't stay in hotels much, I stay mainly with friends. But it's good to know for the future.

Interesting article. Did you ever read "Nickel and Dimed." It was written by a journalist who attempted four different jobs across the country to see if you can get by on minimum wage. She tried being a motel housekeeper and survived one day.
