How much do you tip housekeeping????

Hi

I am about to spend 9 nights at the Dolphin and was wondering what the appropriate amount for tipping housekeeping is.

I think $1/person is average. We're a party of 2 and usually tip about $3 or $4, just because $2 seems like nothing. Honestly, it depends how many one's we have each day.

Last October DH and I stayed at BWI and we left 5 dollars a day. I had envelopes made up before we left (a tip from this board) and left one every day for housekeeping. That way if there happened to be a different housekeeper they each got their share. It worked out great having them done before we left.

I was figuring on leaving $2 or $3 a day for a tip... but the age old question iiiiiissssss-- what if the 'service" isn't great one day and I leave a tip the next morning... and a different mousekeeper gets that tip and that service is better that day... should I put the DATE on the envelope so they would know which day it is for????

Tough call. We just left the envelope before we left for the day and hoped for the best. We were never disappointed.

We, a family of three, leave $5/day. We leave another $5.00 for turndown in the evening. I like leaving it daily/nightly as I want the person who cleaned to actually get it. We have never been disappointed at all.

My daughter created some really pretty envelopes. They all said "Thank You", but she was taking caligraphy at the time and made each envelope different. She used lots of color.
We started out giving about $3 a day, as each day went on we gave more and more.
The housekeeper was really good. She did everything she was supposed to, she did the creative arranging of stuff in our room everyday and went beyond the call of duty when she actually organized my teenagers little chaotic corner.

We leave a couple of dollars each day and like others we make up the envelopes and put the money in BEFORE we leave.

We left $3-4 each day when at AKL last month. I didn't have any envelopes, so I just took a piece of paper, wrote For Housekeeping on it and folded it over the money and left it on the bed. Money always disappeared, so I guess they got it. I hate to stir up controversy, but while on the subject it really kind of confused me - in the AKL guide to services brochure we received when we checked in they had a paragraph about tipping. Said that some employees are tipped employees and tipping was appropriate - listed specifically Valet parking, Bell Services, Bar people and waiters. DID NOT mention housekeeping at all. Now why wouldn't it, if you are expected to tip them, especially seeing as they would compose the single largest group of workers at he resort? I know this has been debated and debated, but if Disney expected or wanted you to tip Housekeeping (sorry I can't bring myself to use the term Mousekeeping, that's just a little too cute for me) why would they not be listed along with everyone else that should be tipped?

We left $4 each morning in one of those Disney envelopes we made on line. Service was good. If it was exceptional (towel animals, etc.), we would have left $5 per day.

We had the BEST Mousekeeper at BC last year - Rosa. She was there the entire week and even delivered the final bill to our room (which I accepted dripping wet in a towel, hiding behind the door!). Every day was a different "wash cloth animal" scene. We did not leave a daily tip but on the day that we left, my kids gave her our envelope with $50 - maybe a little too much but the service was exceptional!
