how much do you tip housekeeping and the bell boy

We ALWAYS tip...usually $5.00 per day for housekeeping and $1.00 per bag for bell hop. Why spend thousands on a vacation and not spent $30.00 bucks to tip these hard working folks.

Because they don't get paid a tipping wage like restaurant servers do. Do you tip the person who checks you into the hotel? How about the person who takes your order at a counter service place? Or the person who loads you onto Dumbo?

I do not tip them because it is not a tipped position in my opinion. It seems to me that this is a sore subject with you and you are taking it out on me for some reason. Which is okay, some things frustrate me too. For us, this very small amount of tipping, for what i consider to be tipped service people, is a very small amount of our vacation budget.

I wish you well and Hope you don't have to go to Starbucks soon...that darn tip jar out in front of the counter even gets my hair up :scared1: .

Housekeeping:
  • If I'm all alone, which I haven't been able to do for quite a while :( , they'll get $5 and have to do almost nothing for it.
  • If there are two of us and we're neat, they'll get $5. If my traveling partner is messy, they'll get $10.
  • If there are a bunch of us, and/or it is a mess, they'll get $20.
I think housekeeping is one of the hardest jobs on the planet. Some of the women doing it are old, too. :( So, I try to tip them well. And I stack all the towels in the sink. And I have all the garbage in one place, pulled out of the can and tied up. That's me. MOST people don't do that! They don't expect it.

I tip the bellmen $10 to get the luggage out of the car and $10 to bring it up to the room. If there is a ton of luggage, I'll give them $20.

To defend the people that don't tip...

I can see that if you stay at the GF or other delux resorts then you must have money coming out of your butts and naturally should tip since you probably use dollar bills to bow your nose.

Those of us that stay at value resorts stay there to save money because we still wanna enjoy Disney but wanna try to keep a budget and watch every penny you use. To tip a mousekeeper just seems silly to those on a budget. Those same people carry their own luggage up to their rooms so to save the tipping money.

I think it's a little unfair to say that since you spend thousands on a vacation, you should spend the extra to tip because some of us don't spend thousands, maybe just hundreds and that extra 30 bucks that would have been spent on tips could of been used for a few meals in Disney.

I'm not trying to insult anyone but I'm trying to make you rich folks understand why some people don't tip.

I'll be going in August and after this thread I will be tipping the mousekeepers a bit, probably like 2 bucks a day... and whatever change I have left over from the parks. I'll be bringing my bags up myself most likely.

Tipping is an option but as I said before you can use it as a great example to teach your children a giving spirit. We just budget it into our spending money. 2 Corinthians 9:7-9 Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not relunctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written; "He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor; his righteousness endures forever." I think these verses in the bible even apply to tipping as not a requirement but doing what you decide in your heart and being cheerful about it.

We don't all believe in god and the bible.

Dang, I didn't realize I was 'rich' because I tip. :lmao: I'll consider myself rich when my money works for me--not when I work for my money.

But in all seriousness, if you don't like tipping Mousekeeping, you don't have to. It's that simple. My nephew asked me last night why we were doing tip envelopes for the Mousekeepers and I told him it's because I prefer to. I also told him some people do not and that's fine too.

I know I don't tip the folks at Starbucks Coffee when I go there for my caffeine fix. And I certainly don't give a whit what other people think when I don't drop money in the tip box. To each their own. :thumbsup2

WL has awesome Mouse keeping in our eyes. we left 5.00 a day we figured it was not always the same person.
Our last visit when we would leave the room she wuld do like little scenes with the kids stuffed animals and towel she left. she made a pool and signs that say watch out below! then the dinousar from animal AK would go down it . very very funny to see.

the kids would be so excited to see what they did daily.

On one day we got extra sheets our son was puking from bad pickles we ate at a palce in MK. she told us get some pretzels and have him eat those and sip water, her should be fine by dinner. he sure enough was better by then the pretzels helped just as she said they would.

Hope that on this trip its the same experience as last minus being sick!
