I started reading this thread thinking, we don't spend much on souvenirs. We usually don't shop until we have already been in the parks for several days. We get to look around and have an idea what is available. Then I'll tell the 3x dds to pick out one stuffed animal each. And I usually buy scrapbook stuff. So, not to many souvenirs, right??

Then I that other things I bought were technically souvenirs, I just put them into another catagory. Like Christmas ornaments aren't souvenirs, they're ornaments for the tree. And kitchen stuff like trivets and pot holders are necessary equipment in the kitchen. Princess dresses for the lunch at the castle are meeting the dress code, right?

Yeah, I need help. I have a problem.. I'm too good at justifying. Nope, don't think I'd change a thing. I still don't have the coffee mug with Donald's backside.

I put $25, but really it depends. Typically we buy $25 per year per person. We sometimes make more than one trip, so many times the answer is $0.

Recently I've been spending way more than I used to. I get so caught up when I am there and I LOVE the woman's pjs they have.

We just returned Sunday from a 10 day trip. I'm shocked at what my children spent or did not spend.

My 12 year old spent $5.00 in the Disney Outlet on a lanyard (can you believe it was .49 cents) and pins. $10.00 in Epcot and $6.00 in Walmart. Total = $21.00

My 9 year old son spent $16.00 and I bought him a Southwest plane at the airport for $10.00. So, only $26.00.

It's my 4 year old daughter who would have bought the world! $17.00 on stuffed Minnie, $18 on Pick a Pearl at Epcot (I suggested it - she would not have had a clue), $9.00 at Walmart and I'm sure we got her a few things I don't remember as she always seemed to have something new. Total $44.00 that I remember. Plus, BBB which was great but had a nice pricetag!

I didn't see anything I needed or wanted this year!

I spend a lot, but I save up, and take Disney gift cards and debit. My trips are paid off before I go(including dining), so I have no guilt on that end. I'd say I spend about $800 to $1000 but I don't buy junk. I buy collectibles, watches, jewelry etc. I also buy gifts for other people.

Wow! I want to go with you to watch you spent it! I love the gift shops. I'm a big window shopper but it would be fun to be with someone shopping for that something special! I always wanted to buy one of the Thomas Kinkade prints.

Me and DH spend about $20 each on souveniers. He likes to collect the golf balls with the disney characters on them and I like to get a snowglobe on each trip. However, I am picky about my snowglobes. First they must be small and second it has to be a globe I could not find at the disney store.....We give DD $20 as well but she has $60 already saved up from gifts from family throughout the year. I guess if I couldn't buy the majority of the stuff online or at the Disney store I might feel the need to buy more.

I did not participate in the poll. But here is my tentative shopping list for our trip next month:

-smaller Thomas Kinkade print already framed approx $100 (saw it last Nov and haven't forgotten about it yet)
-precious moments WDW excl figurine (girl riding on Peter Pan) $100 I think and I think there is another WDW excl one that I am missing
-Dooney & Bourke purse $200ish :confused3
-Dooney & Bourke wristlet $50ish
-at least 2 disney Chamilla charms for my Pandora bracelet (not sure how much they are there)
-several pins
-a t shirt and hoodie
-several ornaments incl at least 1 dated one
-new board game (if any) as I collect the WDW exclusives
-possibly the WDW excl Jim Shore of Cinderella's castle
I am banking my mother's day gift from DH and Bday (which is in May) gifts to offset some of this. But I am sure I will still spend way more than I would like but will do it anyway.... It's WDW and I'm addicted!!!

my list is always subject to change and it's pretty much always by adding extra things to the list. :rotfl2:

DH and I don't get anything. We take lots of pictures and I make a photobook online when I get home, so I guess that is my "late" souvenir. The kids have only gotten something once, and that was when we let one fill up a Mr. Potato Head box, and the other filled up a My Little Pony box. We've done Disney 4 times now, and that was it for all the trips. We are spending enough on the trip - we don't need more "stuff" around the house taking up space!

Disney's designs for mugs, T-shirts etc seem to have gotten a lot less imaginative than what they used to be even two years back. I still tour through the gift shops, but every trip I find them less attractive from a product standpoint... and I love to shop! :lmao:

Last trip, I bought no souvenirs for myself. DD bought a wrap dress from the Yak and Yeti shop, DS bought a shirt from the same shop and a wooden gun from an Adventureland cart.

Well I am giving each kid a $100 this year. They have earned some money from a yard sale, I have also been having them do extra chores around the house ect... They also had some christmas and birthday money. We have prepaid for everything, had a garage sale, sold some stuff at auction and I have worked my butt of taking stuff to the consignment stores. I plan to spend as I want and not feel guilty! LOl!

I wanted to add that my dk's will be expected to pay for any video games, extra snacks beyond the dining plan or ones we didn't bring, with there money. I have done this before and they really learn to think twice before they spend. I think it teaches them to think. I am hoping they might even come back with some.
