I just went to feed the dog and it is at the bottom of the bag again. I just figured it up and we spend $20 per week on dog food. I was frustrated but know that the stuff we get is working to good to give up on it.

This is for a Bernese Mountain Dog (large breed) We use Wellness Large Breed Puppy. Curious as to what others are paying and what brand you are using.

For dry I use Merrick B.G. which runs about $50 a bag here. For wet I switch between a few different premium brands for variety. For the six dogs I spend about $125 a week which includes treats but not bones, misc goodies. :rolleyes1

ETA: I know what you mean about not wanting to switch off what is working, especially for your large breed. I LOVE the grain free stuff, they eat smaller amounts and poop MUCH less. ;)

Fortunately our dog is smaller but we feed Canidae - but now we have found out she has allergies. We are currently in the process of determining if they are seasonal or food related. The only good thing is if they are food related it won't be quite the sticker shock since we are already feeding a good food (we started Maddy on Wellness Puppy - but since Canidae was right up there with it quality-wise we switched since it was a little less expensive). I can't imagine spending that kind of money on food for a big dog that eats a lot.

I just bought food yesterday for the dogs. It was $50 for the 2 of them and it should last about 2 weeks. One dog is on the Wolf stuff?? Can't remember it's name as this is a new switch and my lab LOVES it. (she was on Evangers but I can't find it easily anymore) And the Little french bulldog is on Royal Canin for small dogs with allergies. I am not sure how long that bag will last it is small so that might need a refill before the week is up I wanted to see how she was doing on it.

I did have an English Bulldog that lived to be 14 and all he ever ate was Purina One lamb and rice. He led a healthy long life.

My lab won't eat it. Pain.

We have two mini. schnauzers who only eat about 1 cup of food a day each. We buy Blue Buffalo's Chicken and Brown Rice, and it costs us about $40.00 a month. For about three years, I had to make our older schnauzer chicken and rice. She had serious episodes of throwing up and painful blotting. The only thing that helped her was a strict diet of homemade chicken and rice. About a year ago, I decided try a dog food again, and after a little research, I was directed to Blue Buffalo. It has worked like a charm for her. I am so pleased and relieved. There is nothing more easy than just scooping and pouring into a bowl. It beats cooking and freezing any day.

I have a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, and she goes through a little more than one bag of PurinaOne (Sensitive Tummies type) a month. It comes out to be about 30-40 dollars if it's on sale.

Before that, I fed her Candidae but had to stop when the store that sold it closed which is why I switched to the Purina brand as recommended by the breeder. I think that bag cost 40/45 dollars maybe?

We only go through the one bag because she is not a big eater. She'll eat anywhere between 3 and six cups a day depending on her mood. She's more of a drinker--lots and lots of water (typical of the breed) and really messy about it.

I feed my dog a Nutra Natural Choice Sensitive Stomach to my 70lbs hound mix. I usually buy a BIG bag, probably about once a month or every 5-6 weeks. It's $50ish a bag. Sometimes I buy him the wet can food as well but that runs me a lot more.

Well a Bernie IS going to eat more than a Maltese! Did you not think of this before bringing him into your home?

Just think of it as a necessary expense like the electric bill!!!!! That is a very good brand of dog food and will help your baby grow into a healthy adult. It great that you started him out on such a high quality food.....please keep it up!

You can call the company and ask if they have coupons or a "frequent buyer" card ( buy so many bags, get one free).:hippie:

We have a 7 month old Standard Poodle puppy and feed him IAMS Large Breed Puppy. It runs about $25 a 17lb bag and lasts us about two weeks. Since it is carried in the three pet stores, Target, Kroger and Publix that I frequent, I can usually find it on sale for $18-$20 at one of those stores any given week. One of the reasons we chose this pet food was that it is widely available and I don't have to make a special trip just to buy dog food.

PS- Oh, and since he has grown so much since we got him (8 weeks old at Christmas), people are always asking what on earth are we feeding him.

We have a Bouvier and a Fox Terrier, luckily they both like the same food. We feed them 'Now', it's a grain free food. Runs about $70 for the large bag and lasts about 3 weeks I think.
