How much do you sacrifice for your disney fix??

Half of my wages is spent on our holidays (and we have four a year) so I guess I have sacrifaced going part time. Having said that I spend half my time at work dreaming of being on holiday as all my facebook friends know!!!!

i think you are doing the right thing by your family however i know the feeling you have. we bought into dvc 6 years ago and stil havent told my parents for fear of their reaction, (i am 38 and my husband 47 and we have three children 14,13 & 2) isnt it sad how other make us feel but we love disney and the way it makes us feel and brings us closer, cant wait for next trip 2011.

I dunno... I'm kind of undecided on this one. We do have a flatscreen TV and lots of gadgets (more my bf than me it has to be said!) but are pretty good with our day to day spending, more out of personal preference really. We're on moderate incomes but as it's just the 2 of us we have an OK amount of disposable income at the moment, doubt this will be the case when we have kids. I think that while it's lovely to be able to give children Disney trips etc it's not the be all and end all. I work with under fives and their appreciation for the simple things in life is pretty darn inspiring :goodvibes
I've been in a lot of debt before and don't intend to be again if I can possibly help it (with the exception of a mortgage!) Not having that weight on your shoulders is priceless... I read somewhere that debt is like stealing money from your future self and I totally agree.
I think there is a lot of jealousy in this country for those who do well financially, even if they've worked hard to get where they are. IMO, even those of us who have to save hard etc to afford nice holidays are more fortunate than many many others.

Oh, most definitely. ::yes:: I always think how lucky we are to have gone at all, let alone more than once. It's almost six years ago that we went on our first WDW holiday which was meant to be one of those 'once-in-a-lifetime' holidays ~ if anyone had told me then that we would go on to have a further seven Disney holidays I'd never have believed them!

That is so true. I know someone with huge credit card debt ~ just the interest that they repay each month is more than my monthly mortgage repayment. I've just sacrificed a Disney med cruise next year to have some work done on our house and although it wasn't an easy decision I know it was the right one rather than stretch ourself financially.

Oh, I am so glad there are people out there like us!! I've just had my inlaws moaning because during our 14 day trip to Florida we have booked 3 nights at the Boardwalk for DH's 30th birthday.

"You should stop going on holidays and buy a bigger house (close to me)."

"You should stop going on holidays because we didn't go on holidays when our kids were young"

"I don't know why you have to go to Florida all the time, why don't you stay in the caravan with us in Norfolk."

None of those things appeal to us. We do intend to buy a bigger house. We have a 2 bed and 2 young children, but they don't even sleep in their own room half the time they are in with us.

I don't care if they didn't get on holiday when their kids were young. Holidays with my family are some of my fondest memories. especially the ones to Disney.

I ave absolutely no desire to be stuck in a tin can with my inlaws for a horrible soggy wet week thank you very much!!

We both work full time, we don't drink or smoke, we rarely go out to eat. We get very little quality time with our kids. When we go to Florida, we spend time together as a family, no distractions. To me that is worth a little sacrifice. So glad to see I'm not the only one who feels that way.

Well, something things, like a new bathroom, need a new shower for 5 years, but thats not just money, I can tell its gonna be a hassle. but would not give up my convertable say.
I wont pay for car parking, would rather walk 2 miles but will happily pay anything in dollars, cause then it doesnt count.:goodvibes

I have worked really hard since I was 16,(like most folks) never had much when we were first married and payed off our mortage asap.Never had kids cause couldnt aford them, then too old to have them. Never had a bank loan, always saved for what we have. I am not thinking I am smart, I know others ways are fine, just feel well why not I have the money.. my best friend died when she was 35 and never did get around to posh holidays.
I used to apologise for all my holidays at work, but now I dont care that they talk about me(and trust me they do) I work a week and then off a week, so lots of travels for me:thumbsup2

My DD ( 10& 13) even make their own sacrifices. They have a week of eating just super noodles for tea ( asda 12p! each)so we can put the money saved on groceries towards the holiday!!!!
If anything happened to my family I know that I am filled with happy memories from happy holidays!

OOOOhhhhhhhh bless them, bring them up in the faith, thats what I like to hear!:thumbsup2.

We save hard to go and probably don't go out for meals as much as friends seem to do. I certainly don't buy clothes at the rate my friends do but how many pairs of jeans, tops and shoes can you wear??

Whenever my DDs ask for something I always say well we're saving up for Florida. Would you rather have xyz or put the money towards Florida and they choose Florida everytime - to me that says it all.

I went back to work full time last September with the intention that this extra money is for holidays - it certainly makes me smile when I'm having a bad day at the office!
