How much do you pay your teenaged babysitter?

We started our sitters at about $4/hr but now they are at $6. We will usually give a couple extra bucks if it's longer than normal, or there are more "awake" hours.

We have two kids (4 & 6). If the sitter has to feed the kids and play with them all night, I'd give slightly more. But that is never the case. Most of the time, the sitter puts them to bed and has the night to herself to watch tv or read or whatever. It's not a demanding job at our home. Sometimes our sitters bring a friend with them and we have 2 for one. That isn't often, but I don't mind it because I trust our sitters completely. I am very close to their parents and I know the girls well.

I have one child and I pay 10.00 an hour...unless its for the entire day I am at work ( 8 1/2 hours) then they charge 50.00 a day.

I babysit for 2 kids pretty regularly (1 and 3). I usually get about $25. Thats for from 6 or 6:30 til about 10. One night I got $40 because they were out a lot later than they had thought. The kids go to bed between 7:45 and 8:30. Sometimes they will ask me to come about 20 mins before they plan on leaving so they can finish getting ready and I can watch the kids or finish making them supper. My boyfriend (well, exboyfriend...im dreading breaking the news to the kids/parents!) used to come over often, only when the kids were awake. Margo LOVES clark and would be just as excited about him coming over when she knew I was keeping her! The parents knew and always welcomed him.
I was asked one time by someone else what I charged, I just told them I didnt really have a rate, they could pay what they felt reasonable.
Good Luck!

3 children = $10.00

We mainly let them spend the night with either set of grandparents if we're going out for a long night.

Dang! Glad I don't use a babysitter, some of you charge/get as much or more then I do, doing bookkeeping/accounting.

Growing up (80's) I used to get $2 an hour for two kids.

My daughter is 16yo and gets a variety of amounts. She usually leaves it to the family to pay what they think is fair. She babysits next door neighbors and gets $10/hr for their two kids (3 and 6yo). Sometimes they need her early in the mornings and they pay a premium (and she's usually available). She sits for another family and gets $10/hr--they have 3 kids 4, 6, and 8. She sat for another neighbor the other night from 6pm-midnight and got $25, which is a bit low for our area (sitters usually get at least $5/hr here), but it was an easy sit for one child.

I pay her $5/hr to watch her 4yo brother (and keep an eye on her 10 and 13yo brothers, not that they can't watch themselves), when I pay her (if we're going out, not if I'm at the store, a meeting, etc). I expect her to clean the kitchen, etc, but she'd have to help do that even if I were home.

DD is 3 and DS is 4 and I can honestly say that I've NEVER paid for babysitting. We are truly greatful to have two sets of grandparents close by.

How much would be fair for a 24 hour day? I travel on business and DH is a firefighter so on days that he is on duty I need for my 19 year old sitter to spend the nite with the kids (7am to 7am shift).

My girls are 10 and 5 and pretty well behaved I guess.

Any suggestions??

thanks!

hmmm not sure about that one mouseclub....im babysitting 10 hours saturday, but i dont even know how much i am making then...
have you asked her what she thinks is reasonable? then you can decide

15 yr DS gets $7 an hour to watch a 2 (still in diapers) and 4 yr old. this usually includes cleaning them, and their mess, up after dinner (they are usually eating when he gets there). He also gets them both ready for bed.

As a teenage baby sitter, I charge $3 an hour and a dollar more an hour for every child. That can change though. Dipaers are extra, and if the kids are really rotten, then suddenly, "My prices have gone up." (Half the time they don't call me again, but that's what I wanted in the first place)

How much would be fair for a 24 hour day?

I would recommend asking the babysitter how much she wants for that day. I would think it would be a fixed amount, rather than per-hour.

I don't pay very often for sitters, but sometimes I feel like I'm burning out the grandparents. We have a few teenagers/college students that we trust. I think we usually pay $5 or $6/hour for my 2 kids (dd5 & ds2).

I did have my teenage cousin babysit overnight one time & I think I paid her $50. I think we went out late around 9pm and then didn't get in until the wee hours of the night, so she just slept over & I drove her home in the am.
